Try loading your data into Phoenix via the MapReduce loader, I believe it provides better error logging - http://phoenix.apache.org/bulk_dataload.html

Take a look at Spark (and SparkSQL). It can automatically infer the schema of a JSON dataset https://spark.apache.org/docs/1.4.1/sql-programming-guide.html#json-datasets

Hi, I am aware that Hortonworks supports Java 1.7 (All versions of HDP) and Java 1.8 (HDP 2.3+). But are there any capability issues for Java CPU? For instance Java 1.7_79 ? Are there any differences between using Open JDK and OracleJDK?

I have a locked down environment where I can't have sudo/root privileges. Am I still available to install Ambari and HDP? If so, how? I was able to create a local repo following the docs. Furthermore I have created a user called 'Ambari' to run the Ambari service as.

Yes - It is very easy to add another Kafka broker via the Ambari UI. Step 1) From Ambari Home -> Hosts Step 2) Select Host you would like to add the broker Step 3) Select Add Kafka Broker Step 4) Confirm you want to install Kafka Broker Step 5) Sit back, crack open a beer and let Ambari do the rest!

I no longer have a use for Accumulo on my cluster and would like to delete the service. But when I tried to do that in Ambari, I noticed I could only add a service, not remove one.

I have deployed a cluster in Azure using Cloudbreak and want to permanently add another two data nodes and, ideally, still have it managed through cloudbreak. How would I go about doing this?

ORC is a supported file format in the HDP platform. That being said individual projects within the platform may not be able to leverage that file format properly. As of HDP 2.3.0, which includes Spark 1.3.1, Spark support for ORC is currently a Tech Preview. However, Spark 1.4 provides native support for reading/writing an ORC file to/from an RDD. So you should expect to see Sparks support for ORC to be GA when Spark 1.4.1 is GA in HDP (which as of Sept-2015, it's tentative for the next HDP 2.3 maintenance release)
