@ARUN, What is the size of the cluster? Can we have the following config items ? /etc/ambari-metrics-collector/conf - ams-site.xml, ams-env.sh /etc/ams-hbase/conf - hbase-site.xml, hbase-env.sh Also, the response of http:<AMS_HOST>:6188/ws/v1/timeline/metrics/metadata

@rudra, Adding to Greg's answer, Ambari Metrics Service tracks the JVM state of every component through metrics. These can be visualized in Grafana from Ambari-2.2.2. If you are interested in Ambari Server's JVM state itself, that is still WIP and is available in trunk. Tracked through https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AMBARI-17589.

@Pradheep Shan As Terry mentioned, you cannot modify the existing Grafana dashboards since they are managed by Ambari. On Grafana restart, your changes will go away. However, you can do one of this. 1. Create a new dashboard Sign in as admin, Click on Home dropdown, and then "New" in the bottom part of the dropdown. 2. Clone and Edit an existing dashboard Open a dashboard. Click on Setting Icon and use Save As. This way your changes are preserved across restarts.

@Arti Wadhwani, Hive components emit metrics to the AMS collector through the Hadoop metrics2 framework. On your cluster, is the Ambari Metrics collector component up and running? Do you see anything in Hive Metastore and HiveServer2 logs? Do graphs from other service dashboards show data?

Hi @P D, The patch that was committed was slightly different from the one that was attached to the JIRA. I have now attached the one that was committed. https://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12832196/AMBARI-18187-2.patch Can you try with that?

Hi @P D, After replacing the ams.py under /var/lib/ambari-server, you will have to restart ambari-server for all the agents to pick up the change. You should also see the ams.py in a similar path under /var/lib/ambari-agent. That will be get the new script on Ambari Server restart. Then, go ahead and restart Metrics collector component.
