@Himanshi Gidwani hadoop doesnt enforce any rules, if using AD for kerberos, usually password policies are set in AD. No such requirement from hadoop end. We just need a principal created in AD/KDC. Only recommendation is to set "password never expire" for the service account created in AD.

@Himanshi Gidwani Could you please clarify on what passwords you are referring here? We dont have any password authentication for hadoop(HDFS/YARN/MR). What ever user authenticated on client host(where executing hdfs command) will be the user accessing hadoop services. (Using kerberos is regular practise to configure authentication on hadoop)

@mliem Please verify the auth_to_local rules in the host where hive is running, usually in /usr/hdp/<Version>/hadoop/conf You can also try copy/link core-site.xml to /etc/hive/conf/conf.server and /etc/hive/conf

@rajdip chaudhuri
I see you already have another HDP installation on that host you have added. Generally in a host which is newly added, you would not have /usr/hdp directory. Was this host already part of another cluster before adding it to this cluster? And what softlink you would see in /usr/hdp/current ?

@rajdip chaudhuri It looks that /usr/hdp/2.5.3.0-37 doesnt exists on the host. Please check the list of directories under /usr/hdp. In the stderr log it shows that conf-select command failed to set config directory to /usr/hdp/2.5.3.0-37/. This usually is the case when identified version directory doesnt exists under /usr/hdp. In your case it is /usr/hdp/2.5.3.0-37.

@viswanath kammula You need to upgrade to Ambari 2.5 first and then upgrade to HDP2.6. Please review the stack compatibility with Ambari versions. http://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/HDP2/HDP-2.6.0/bk_support-matrices/content/ch_matrices-ambari.html

@Mukesh Kumar Ambari server log will have detailed exception for this issue. Please check what is the complete exception you see in /var/log/ambari-server/ambari-server.log while you are attempting to add a service. Most probably this might be due to Ambari DB issues which you can identify from ambari-server.log
