What is the Ambari version that you are using? If you are using HDF-2.1.X mpack please use Ambari 2.4.2.

The --purge flag when installing the HDF mpack will purge the HDP stack definition.

HDF management pack is supported only as a standalone install (i.e. it is not supported for installing on an Ambari instance with a deployed HDP cluster). Ambari does not support deploying multiple clusters.

@wayne2chicago Can you check if JDBC driver symllink at /var/lib/ambari-server/resources/oracle-jdbc-driver.jar points to ojdbc7.jar or ojdbc6.jar? ls -lh /var/lib/ambari-server/resources/oracle-jdbc-driver.jar

2-way SSL is not required. Can you retry and see if you still see this issue. If you do can you copy-paste the entire logs reported while registering the host.

@Ali Gouta What is the HDP stack version you are using? You don't need to create Kafka broker ids. Ambari creates broker_id if you are on HDP-2.2 Starting in HDP 2.3, Kafka handles the generation of broker.id Also is the pid in /var/run/kafka/kafka.pid the same as the kafka process that is running? Do you have kafka-python package installed? If you have you will need to uninstall the kafka-python package.

RE: Secondly, at the point of assign components to masters, ambari automatically assigns components based on three master is there any best-good practice for this assignment ? Ambari automatically recommends the layout of components based on your environmen. So for a demo cluster, I would say you dont really need to change the layout.

@Anandha L Ranganathan 1) You can follow the same Ambari upgrade guide 2) There is a pre-requisite check for Hive Dynamic Discovery that will block upgrades if this config property is required. Specifically HDP-2.2.x -> HDP-2.2.y upgrades will only WARN if this config property is not set, however HDP-2.2.x -> HDP-2.3.y+ upgrades will be blocked as this pre-req will FAIL. FYI, the pre-req checks are fairly verbose on what steps to follow just incase you missed on some of these preconditions documented in the upgrade guide.

I believe, the failure seems to be caused while setting "upgrade_package" column for existing entries in the upgrade DB because there is no repo_version DB entry that matches with the from_version entry for a DOWNGRADE entry in the upgrade table. However, I do believe the upgrade DB table should exist as it also existed in 2.1.2.1 and we dont delete the table. You can check your DB dump before the upgrade to verify if the table existed

Yes, having the logs would help. While network issues could be the primary cause, we should also see if for some reason there is a possibility of deadlock.

Actually this patch was backported to 2.2.1.1. I verified that the fix is in 2.2.1.1 by going through the following steps. Can you verify you are using the latest 2.2.1.1 bits (can you share ambari-server --hash output?) wget -O /etc/yum.repos.d/ambari.repo http://public-repo-1.hortonworks.com/ambari/centos6/2.x/updates/2.2.1.0/ambari.repo
yum install ambari-server -y
ambari-server setup -y
wget -O /etc/yum.repos.d/ambari.repo http://public-repo-1.hortonworks.com/ambari/centos6/2.x/updates/2.2.1.1/ambari.repo
yum upgrade ambari-server -y

Check if you have provided the correct ssh key. The key should be the private ssh key and not the public ssh key. On the command line try to ssh manually with those credentials and see if you can SSH.

Is /usr/hdp on root? If you are using a GCE cluster you can setup such that /usr/hdp is on larger drive # On each VM, mkdir /grid/0/hdp mkdir /usr/hdp mount --bind /grid/0/hdp /usr/hdp If you have done upgrades in the past and dont intend to go back to the older version, you could remove the old version bits from /usr/hdp/old-version

I dont have a cluster handy to validate this, but I think this should work. If you have Namenode HA enabled try with -fs hdfs://{dfs.nameservices} (i.e. oozie-setup.sh sharelib create -fs hdfs://mycluster).
