@Knows NotMuch In Sandbox it works because Sandbox includes a pre configured cluster with pre configured users and their home directories.

@Knows NotMuch That's exactly the desired output "Ambari Server 'setup' completed successfully". Now if you start your hive 2server you shouldn't get the previous error. Please let me know after attempting the H2S startup.

down vote I was having the exact same issue, cannot hit the CM login using public DNS or IP on port 7180. Following steps will help you : iptables stopped (service iptables stop)
SELinux disabled (got to /etc/selinux/config and disbaled the selinux)
curl/wget localhost:7180 works (check the curl status)
ufw allow 7180
service httpd status should be running.
check va/log/cloudera-scm-server log : if any error found then troubleshoot the error
cloudera-scm-server status (should be running state)
netstat -nap | grep 7180 returns (if running other service then kill it) telnet localhost 7180 (should be connected)

Apparently, the problem was with the 'repodata' I had. The issue got resolved once I created the new repodata for my install-dir where I had all my install files. I downloaded and installed 'createrepo' tool first and then ran the following using the tool: createrepo /home/cloudera/install-files This created a new repodata dir and the files and after this my installation succeeded without any error.
