I resolved this by using cloudera manager to do the installation on the machine. I had to add the machine to the list of hosts then configure a template to include hive gateway and then added and started the role on the machine. I also uninstalled all my yum installation. Workes fine now

Hello, is it possible to upgrade from cdh 4 with out Cloudera Manager to cdh5 with Cloudera Manager, and perform the upgrade so that data is not lost.
