I Found the jar file was in this directory: [cloudera@quickstart lib]$ find ./ -name hive-contrib.jar ./hive/lib/hive-contrib.jar ./oozie/oozie-sharelib-mr1/lib/hive/hive-contrib.jar ./oozie/oozie-sharelib-yarn/lib/hive/hive-contrib.jar [cloudera@quickstart lib]$ pwd /usr/lib/hive/lib [cloudera@quickstart lib]$ ls -ltr hive-contrib.jar lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 32 Oct 23 09:59 hive-contrib.jar -> hive-contrib-1.1.0-cdh5.13.0.jar [cloudera@quickstart lib]$ then used the same ADD JAR /usr/lib/hive/lib/hive-contrib.jar and it worked.

5.5 or 5.7? the title and text disagree. 5.5 would have Spark 1.4, and I am not sure whether SQLContext was exposed as sqlContext by the shell by default like that. It should be in Spark 1.6 (= CDH 5.6+)

doing some quick searching, this blog seems to be doing what I think is your intent, taking logs, storing in kafka, distributing to various consumers, one of those consumers being Cloudera Search (solr) [1] you could make it simpler and store directly to solr[2] if you aren't planning on consuming the same data from multiple sources. instead of logstash you could also use Flume [3] [4] as well.
