I am working not the Tag Based Polices tutorial (http://hortonworks.com/hadoop-tutorial/tag-based-policies-atlas-ranger/).
I created the "policy to access employee data". Then I started Hive view as maria_dev. When I tried the query I got the permission denied error message as expected. However, when I open the ranger audit page and go to the access tab, I don't see the permission error logged.

The ranger audit logs were going in but there were so many the hive entries did not appear on the first page even when looking at ranger right after the query. After filtering by ServiceType hive and Result: Denied I was able to find the denied query:
