How to create Lucene index in HDFS with example code

I am new in Hortonwork and trying to evaluate for our project to store lucene index in HDFS.

Please help me with sample code,So we can understand how we can use HDFS for write and read operation using Lucene.

Can we create lucene index directly into HDFS without using SOLR???

Bcoz we are using lucene in our old project and simple FS to store index.Now we want to replace only our FS to HDFS.

Please suggest if you have better solution.
