Installing on External Harddrive

Is there a way I can install Hortonworks on an External HardDrive and run & boot it up on my Mac in VirtualBox? Or do I need to install it locally and run it locally, but just keep all my data on the harddrive?

@David Bozentka Almost three years ago I use to run a cluster on a USB drive with five VMs. Not only that I didn't run into any issue, I remember sharing images with my coworkers.

Is that how you are trying to run using Virtual box? If yes, it should work.

So, do I install Virtual Box on the External Drive and then just run it when I connect?

Yes. That's how I did it. I am pretty confident that it should work.

Hi mqureshi! How did you install VirtualBox on your External Harddrive? I'm using Mac OS X & can't seem to find a portable VirtualBox or install VirtualBox directly on the ExternalDrive itself. Are you running VirtualBox on your machine and then placing your VMs on the ExternalDrive? Thanks for all the help.
