Is there a way to use encrypted passwords in the Navigator API?

Waterline Data pushes and pulls metadata to/from Navigator using Navigator administrator user credentials through the Navigator API. Is there a way to make sure that the credentials for the Navigator user are obfuscated in some way? They are either entered interactively or stored in a configuration file; in both cases there's a moment where a 'ps' command shows the clear text password.

I heard back from the Navigator team: this functionality isn't available at this time. I think that means Navigator API v9.
