We're pleased to announce the release of Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) Private Cloud (PVC) Data Services 1.2, which delivers key new features and improvements across the platform, including seamless update capability and Extended Support for OpenShift v4.6.
In this release, we’ve added the following new platform capabilities:
- Support for OpenShift 4.6: Deploy CDP on the “Extended Support Update” version of OpenShift, reducing the frequency of required OpenShift upgrades.
- Resource Groups: Assign the same roles to groups of individuals thereby simplifying management of permissions.
- In-place Updates: Upgrade Private Cloud and the OpenShift cluster in-place, without disruption, in any order.
- Custom External Alerts: Connect CDP to an alerts system of choice and receive notifications of any health related issues
- Custom TLS Certificates: Bring your own TLS certificates for added security, thereby addressing a common request from the financial services sector.
- Customizing Diagnostic Bundles: Customize the content of the CDP diagnostic bundle by applying filters such as time range, environments, workload types and more
In this release, we’ve added the following CDW improvements:
- Reduced Minimum Hardware Requirements: some customers don't have the min HW requirements that we asked in PVC 1.0. This is blocking POCs. In 1.2, the minimum HW requirement was lowered by roughly 75%.
- Custom Principal Support for Hive/Impala: Regulated customers are required to change the service name for Hive and other services for security purposes. This causes DB Catalog and VW creation in CDW to break because Kerberos expects a specific hardcoded service name. That restriction is now removed.
- CDW Impala support for ORC ACID reads: CDW Impala users can now run sql queries on ORC ACID data.
- Hive ACID Compaction Fixes: Multiple stability fixes were made for Hive ACID Compaction.
In this release, we’ve added the following CML improvements:
- Applied Machine Learning Prototypes: Applied ML Prototypes (AMPs) provide reference example machine learning projects in Cloudera Machine Learning. More than simplified quickstarts or tutorials, AMPs are fully-developed end-to-end solutions, initially created by Cloudera’s research arm Fast Forward Labs, which are easily extensible and customizable.
- Improved Air Gapped Deployments with support for Non-Transparent Proxy: Customers with Non-Transparent Proxy configured in Openshift will have those settings propagated through to ML Workspace workloads (sessions, models, jobs)
- Improved NFS Support: NFS versions v3 and v4.x are supported with additional external NFS security improvements - ‘no_root_squash’ export option has been removed
- Custom Kerberos Principal Support (Tech Preview): Custom service principals for Hive, Ozone, etc are supported. MLGov also supports specifying a custom service principal during workspace creation.
- API v2 (Tech Preview): An early version of an updated public-facing API is available for Tech Preview, covering initial APIs regarding Projects and Jobs.
- Grafana Monitoring: Monitoring for CML is now using CDP centralized Grafana. Additional database metrics were added and alerts were improved.
See the CDP PVC Data Services 1.2 Release Notes for more details of these features.
To deploy CDP PVC, CDH and HDP customers are encouraged to upgrade to CDP PVC Base. Cloudera’s Professional Services team is available to ensure your migration to CDP is successful. In addition, Cloudera’s Support Team is available for your mission critical support needs. We encourage you to open a support case via our Support Portal to alert us of your planned upgrade.
