Cloudera is pleased to announce that Cloudera Enterprise 5.13 is now generally available (GA).
As usual, there are also a number of quality enhancements, bug fixes, and other improvements across the stack. Here is a partial list of what’s included (see the Release Notes for a full list):
- Core Platform
- SDX Cloud Reference Architecture: Cloudera Enterprise now makes it possible for data management teams to provide a Shared Data Experience to disparate workloads running in the cloud. Key SDX capabilities include:
- Shared Data Catalog provides a unified data catalog experience for multi-cluster environments running in the cloud (with or without Cloudera Director) by sharing a common Apache Hive Metastore.
- Shared Security provides a unified authorization experience for multi-cluster environments running in the cloud (with or without Cloudera Director) by sharing a single instance of Apache Sentry.
- Shared Governance provides a unified governance and lineage experience for multi-cluster environments running in the cloud (currently only without Director) or for shared Altus Data Engineering environments.
- Sentry Architecture Updates: Cloudera Enterprise now provides a more scalable and highly available (HA) architecture for enforcing fine-grained security policies via Apache Sentry, alongside other related HA services such as Hive Metastore (HMS).
- Automated Wire Encryption for Cloud: Cloudera Director now makes it easy to secure Cloudera deployments running in the cloud by automating setup of wire encryption throughout the cluster.
- Updated OpenStack Reference Architecture: Cloudera Enterprise now supports OpenStack environments with Network Block Storage through Ceph, making it much easier to provision and manage storage for cluster nodes.
- Data Science & Engineering
- Simplified Administration: Cloudera Manager now makes it easy to administer Cloudera Data Science Workbench deployments by providing centralized installation, management, monitoring, diagnostic, and usage reporting capabilities.
- Enhanced Permission Controls: Cloudera Data Science Workbench now makes it easier for administrators to enforce security policies by providing granular console sharing permissions.
- Apache Kudu Integration: Cloudera Data Science Workbench now makes it easy to access data stored in Apache Kudu.
- Operational DB
- Kudu Spark Integration: Apache Kudu now provides support for Spark 2.2 and for long-lived Spark applications via token renewal.
- General Kudu Updates: Apache Kudu is now fully integrated into CDH instead of being distributed via a separate parcel. Additionally, this release also includes a number of reliability, storage density, command line interface, and web UI improvements.
- Analytic DB
- Improved Hive Performance: Apache Hive now provides faster and more cost-efficient batch processing by adding support for dynamic partition pruning in Hive-on-Spark.
- Enhanced Kudu Security Controls: Apache Impala now provides administrators full Sentry fine-grained controls to enforce column-level security policy for tables backed in Kudu.
