Adding jar causing NullPointerException

New Contributor

I'm trying to add jar and some mapping files into Hive and I'm getting NullPointerException error

I'm using these commands:
ADD JAR /home/graf/Dropbox/work/POC-DL/DDL/java/getTelecomAreaUDF.jar;

ADD FILE /home/graf/Dropbox/work/POC-DL/DATA/dim_telecom_number_prefix.csv;

They both are generating the same errors. The code working fine on my local virtual machine, however, it's failing on standalone server.

Can anyone help me with this please?

Here is error log:

Re: Adding jar causing NullPointerException

Hi @Dmytro Zagravskyi ,

java.lang.NullPointerException at org.apache.ambari.view.hive20.resources.jobs.JobService.getOne(JobService.java:144)

https://github.com/apache/ambari/blob/release-2.6.2/contrib/views/hive20/src/main/java/org/apache/am...

I see you are using Ambari hive views 2.0 for the query and itlooks like Job is not getting created ?

Can you please try whats happening why you perform the same operation via beeline ?

Hope this helps

Re: Adding jar causing NullPointerException

Can you please check the jar that you have added has some classes that clash with the classes of hive.

1. I can see jersey and eclipse jetty.
2. can you please ensure the jar version of these jars (and any shared jar) is the same with what is present in your platform

I used identical deployment procedure for both environments (VM and the server), the same HDP 2.6.2.2 version, the same Ubuntu version
Anyway I can't even do ADD FILE /...csv command

Hi,
that gave me something. So when I try to do the same via beeline I'm getting 'does not exists' error:

Connecting to jdbc:hive2://localhost:10000/default
Connected to: Apache Hive (version 1.2.1000.2.6.5.0-292)
Driver: Hive JDBC (version 1.2.1000.2.6.5.0-292)
Transaction isolation: TRANSACTION_REPEATABLE_READ
Beeline version 1.2.1000.2.6.5.0-292 by Apache Hive
0: jdbc:hive2://localhost:10000/default> ADD JAR /home/graf/Dropbox/work/POC-DL/DDL/java/getTelecomAreaUDF.jar;
Error: Error while processing statement: /home/graf/Dropbox/work/POC-DL/DDL/java/getTelecomAreaUDF.jar does not exist (state=,code=1)

I've put the .jar file into hdfs and it succeeded. now I need to understand why it's not working with the local file path

sure, thanks for your response
it was an access issue, I gave full access for my files and now it's working fine
