Ambari Hive views "save as" option downloads different row counts each time

avatar

Ambari Hive views 1.5 is running from a standalone Ambari server. The hive view is setup to access the cluster and the configuration using zookeeper ports to access data.

The users are downloading output of a sql query from Ambari hive views using the "save as" button. There are two options here

  1. Save to HDFS
  2. Download as CSV

Every time the business users download a result set the row count of the output extract is different. Be it with option 1 or option 2.

The Ambari.properties file content is embedded here. As far as I am aware there are only timeouts set here but there aren't any configurations to limit the result set.

I have seen this issue, if there is any issues in Excel formatting, Excel use to show the different row counts, instead of checking the row counts, can you please validate the data and see you have any data mismatch issues.

avatar

Hi @Venkata Sudheer Kumar M firstly thanks for being across all my issues. I may not have made myself clear.

The size of the output differs every time . Every time we extract data as csv there is a different file size. It should be consistent and all rows must get extracted just like the insert overwrite functionality in Hive

@Abhijit Nayak

There are some issues reported with Hive View result set fetch in older version of ambari , which are addressed in Ambari 2.5.0, 2.4.3 : "Hive view loosing one row every 100 row in result set." : https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AMBARI-19666

So please let us know your Ambari Version ?

.
Also it might be a browser setting which might be interrupting the complete file download in between.
So please try using a different browser to see if the behaviour is persistent?

.

@Jay Kumar SenSharma - Yes it is Version2.5.0.3

As given by @Jay Kumar SenSharma the JIRA ( https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AMBARI-19666 ) was a bug in Ambari 2.4.0, but your Ambari version is 2.5.0.3 which is fixed in this release as per the JIRA, please check the below as given by @Jay Kumar SenSharma

Also it might be a browser setting which might be interrupting the complete file download in between.
So please try using a different browser to see if the behaviour is persistent?
