Ambari hive view NullPointerException

avatar

Hello,

I'm having weird problem with my Ambari Hive view. After I execute query against one of my table in Hive View, I'm getting

E090NullPointerException error. The same query from hive command line executes fine and gives proper output.

Exception output below:

Query:

SELECT * FROM test LIMIT 100;

We are using Ambari version 2.2.0.0 with hdp 2.4.5.0-3485 on Centos 7.2 and jdk-1.8.51.

Thank You in advance.

I think I found out what was the problem.

Version of JAVA was a bit higher than we were using in our environment, so I updated java to our latest version 1.8.70, restarted all necessary services and it solved the problem. I'm able to run queries from Hive view again.

Thanks for pointing me to right direction.

@Margus Kiting the only thing that strikes me is that you're using Centos 7.2 which is not yet supported. What happens if you try this in a different browser?

avatar

@Artem Ervits According to the ambari documentation, Centos 7.x is supported, so 7.2 version should not be showstopper. http://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.2.0.0/bk_Installing_HDP_AMB/content/_operating_sys...

I also tried running the same hive query in hive view opened in separate web browser and the result was exactly the same: got java null pointer exception. For testing purposes, I'll try installing small lab cluster to centos 7.1 and see if the problem persists.
