Async Queries Over Thrift / Beeswax

New Contributor

Hello, I am trying to run Impala queries over Thrift and was wondering if it's possible to do the following:

  1. Establish a connection and send a query, grab and store the query id from the query handle.
  2. Close the socket connection.
  3. At some later point in time open another connection and check status / fetch query results with the given query id.

It appears when I try and do this now at step 2 when the socket connection is closed the session gets terminated and query is canceled. Is there anyway to avoid that?

Thanks!

Hi -

Unfortunately there isn't any way to do that. Impala will tear-down any queries associated with a session that gets closed, and sessions are currently closed when the underlying connection to Impala gets broken. This is so that we don't keep orphaned queries around for a long time.

Best,

Henry
