Cloudera Manager Installation Path B_Step 5_sudo service cloudera-scm-server start FAILURE

Explorer

I am installing cloudera Manager single node through Installation path B, I am presently to step 6 i.e. Step 6: Start the Cloudera Manager Server.

I had completed the Step 5 i.e. Install the Cloudera Manager Agents  Successfully

Now I typed the command

$ sudo service cloudera-scm-server start

I am getting below ERROR as:

[root@localhost ~]# sudo service cloudera-scm-server start
Starting cloudera-scm-server:                              [FAILED]

Can you please help here as what went wrong.

Re: Cloudera Manager Installation Path B_Step 5_sudo service cloudera-scm-server start FAILURE

Which web console are you trying to access?

Cloudera Manager by default listens on port 7180, and by default doesn't require anything like LDAP authentication, so you'd normally point your web browser to http://<cm_host>:7180 and then login with the default username and password, which is admin / admin.

If you're having trouble logging in to Cloudera Manager's web UI, what errors are there in log files in /var/log/cloudera-scm-server/ ?

Thanks,
Darren

Master Collaborator

I think you forgot to install your Mysql java connector as detailed on this page.

But I have already installed Embedded PostgreSQL Database.

As a part of prerequisite for Step 4.  Option A

Here it was written as

Important:
You should deploy only one of the database options listed below. After establishing one database for the Cloudera Manager server, move on to step 5.

So is it necessary to install MySQL?

Is you postgres db running. Also  do yiou postgres jdbc driver in the path?

Re: Cloudera Manager Installation Path B_Step 5_sudo service cloudera-scm-server start FAILURE

If you installed the embedded db correctly, then it would not ask for a mysql driver. Postgresql jdbc driver is always on the path, but mysql and oracle require manual downloads, as described in the docs.

Look in /etc/cloudera-scm-server/db.properties to see how your CM is configured to talk to a database.

Note that when using embedded db, you should not run the scm_prepare_database script.

Hi,

I looked to /etc/cloudera-scm-server/db.properties and found

com.cloudera.cmf.db.type=mysql

and rest commented....

Also one thing when i run the following command

/usr/share/cmf/schema/scm_prepare_database.sh postgresql -upostgres scm scm scm

"This example explains how to run the script on the Cloudera Manager Server machine when you have installed PostgreSQL on the same machine."

I received the following error:

[root@localhost ~]# /usr/share/cmf/schema/scm_prepare_database.sh postgresql -upostgres scm scm scm

Re: Cloudera Manager Installation Path B_Step 5_sudo service cloudera-scm-server start FAILURE

When using embedded db, you should not run the scm_prepare_database script. That error is expected because the port is wrong and you shouldn't run it. This step is done automatically when you run "service cloudera-scm-server-db start" for the first time.

There's probably a backup of the correct db.properties file in /etc/cloudera-scm-server/ somewhere. Try restoring that file.

If there isn't a backup, then I'd stop cloudera-scm-server-db, delete /var/lib/cloudera-scm-server-db/data, delete /etc/cloudera-scm-server/db.mgmt.properties if it exists (this file is different from db.properties), and then start cloudera-scm-server-db to recreate these files for you.

Re: Cloudera Manager Installation Path B_Step 5_sudo service cloudera-scm-server start FAILURE

Hi,

I did the same, now again I installed postgreSQL, below is the db.properties file:

[root@localhost mohnish]# cat /etc/cloudera-scm-server/db.properties
# Copyright (c) 2012 Cloudera, Inc. All rights reserved.
#
# This file describes the database connection.
#

# The database type
# Currently 'mysql', 'postgresql' and 'oracle' are valid databases.
com.cloudera.cmf.db.type=mysql

# The database host
# If a non standard port is needed, use 'hostname:port'
#com.cloudera.cmf.db.host=localhost

# The database name
#com.cloudera.cmf.db.name=cmf

# The database user
#com.cloudera.cmf.db.user=cmf

# The database user's password
#com.cloudera.cmf.db.password=

And I am sure this is the same file as earlier. Do let me know so what would be my next step to rectify this issue.

Hi All,

I had restarted my installation process once again.

now i can see postgresql as db which is called in db.properties file.

But the issue as what am facing now is that the web console is now not opening, it shows me follwoing error:

HTTP ERROR 405

Problem accessing /. Reason:

HTTP ERROR 405
Problem accessing /. Reason:
HTTP method GET is not supported by this URL
Powered by Jetty://

Is this error due to some JAVA plugins or due to LDAP Authentication.

I m using Centos 6.5 and Firefox ESR 24.4.0

Recently, I came to this link for Authentication

http://blog.cloudera.com/blog/2012/03/authorization-and-authentication-in-hadoop/

Here it was given a link for "get user-group mappings from an LDAP or Active Directory systems"

Which opened up the page for a patch in apache dev community:

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-8121

Can anybody help here here as how this patch can be deployed in lappy....
