HDP & Linux upgrade

Our current hdp cluster is 2.4 and Linux version is redhat 6.6

We are planning to upgrade redhat 6.6 to redhat 7 and hdp 2.4 to hdp 2.6

These are prod clusters. We have performed few hdp upgrades but the underlying Linux version didn't change. But this time we are going with both Linux OS upgrade and hdp upgrade.

Could any one let me know how to proceed for this. Could anyone give me a good solution to implement this. Will redhat upgrade impact my hadoop ambari cluster as in redhat 7 few commands are different.?

In-place migrations from RHL6 to RHL7 are challenging.

Would advise to upgrade HDP 2.4 to 2.6.2 as is, and use swing kit to install RHL7 on new nodes, which

you add to the cluster. You then migrate the services off the RHL6 nodes onto the new RHL7 asap.

It is advised to run with a mixed cluster (RHL6 and RHL7) for as short a time as possible.

As usual, read the docs, and test as much as possible.

Currently addition of new nodes is not possible in our cluster. We can use only the existing nodes.
