HMaster service not starting

I have run zookeeper, it runs smoothly. Then I run hbase using "start-hbase.sh". Then it starts, but I can't see the HMaster service up and running... I get the following line in the /hbase/logs/master-saichanda.log file:

2018-08-16 10:24:01,873 FATAL [saichanda-OptiPlex-9020:16000.activeMasterManager] master.HMaster: Failed to become active master
java.net.ConnectException: Call From saichanda-OptiPlex-9020/127.0.1.1 to master:50000 failed on connection exception: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused; For more details see: http://wiki.apache.org/hadoop/ConnectionRefused

what is the possible mistake that I am making, how to correct it?

Re: HMaster service not starting

@saichand akella

Do you have the hostname and ip mapping in /etc/hosts (entries of all hosts in all machines)?

Also remove 127.0.1.1 entry and try starting the master.

Re: HMaster service not starting

saichanda@saichanda-OptiPlex-9020:/usr/local/hbase$ cat /etc/hosts

127.0.0.1        localhost
10.0.3.18        master
10.0.3.70 slave1
10.0.3.68 slave2
10.0.3.103 slave3
Do I need to remove localhost also.. I could see HMaster running for sometime, after a few seconds, again it crashes out

Super Mentor

@saichand akella

In your logs we see message like "UnknownHostException"

java.net.ConnectException: Call From java.net.UnknownHostException: XXXXXX-YYYYY-9020: XXXXXX-YYYYY-9020: unknown error to master:16000 failed on connection exception: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused; For more details see: http://wiki.apache.org/hadoop/ConnectionRefused

.

So please make sure that you have setup the hostname properly?

# hostname -f

Please make sure to setup the hostname correctly as described in

https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.6.2.2/bk_ambari-installation-ppc/content/edit_the...

# vi /etc/sysconfig/network

NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=<fully.qualified.domain.name>

.

Also you will need to make sure that each and every hosts present in the cluster are able to resolve each other using their correct FQDN.

Re: HMaster service not starting

I have made the changes, Now, it doesn't show unknown host, It helped me figure out that, still I have same proble, just that, now my error is like,

the updated log file has been attached here .

Another mention.. I don't have any directory called <sysconfig> in my /etc file, do I need create directory named sysconfig and then write into file 'network' ? or Is there anything that I'm missing out? Also,

If you can help me figure out what is FQDN(<fully.qualified.domain.name>)... Thank you sir.
