Is there a way to add nodes parallely to an existing Ambari cluster?

New Contributor

We are using Ambari blueprint API to add nodes to an existing cluster. We observed that Ambari is adding nodes to the cluster sequentially, due to which time taken to add 10 nodes is 10x, where 'x' is time taken to add one node.

Is there a configuration/knob/api to parallelize node addition?

We are on HDP 2.6.4 GA release. Ambari 2.5.2.

I do not see any parallelization option.

However there is something which you can try the "provision_action" inside the blueprint as "INSTALL_ONLY" so that ambari will just install the components and will not attempt to start them immediately which saves some time in case of failure as it does not wait long for components to be restarted. We can start the components later from ambari UI when the cluster is installed properly.

  • provision_action : Default provision_action is INSTALL_AND_START, optionally this can be overwritten on component level, by specifying a different provision_action for a given component.
