Shared folder between host and guest OS, sandbox hdp 2.6.1 on virtualBox

New Contributor

Hi all,

I am using the HDP 2.6.1 sandbox on VirtualBox 5.0.40. I would like to use a shared folder between the host OS (Ubuntu) and guest OS (centos)

What's the best / easiest way to do this?

I tried installing the Virtual Box guest additions but running into errors.

best,Ger

I prefer the following approach more using "sshfs"

[root@sandbox tmp]# yum install fuse sshfs -y
[root@sandbox tmp]# modprobe fuse

[root@sandbox tmp]# ssh-copy-id -i ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub jsensharma@Your_Local_Machine_IP
[root@sandbox tmp]# sshfs -o IdentityFile=~/.ssh/id_rsa jsensharma@Your_Local_Machine_IP:/Users/jsensharma/Shared_Folder_1 /Sandbox_Dir/Shared

[root@sandbox tmp]# fusermount -u /Jay/Shared
[root@sandbox tmp]# sshfs -o IdentityFile=~/.ssh/id_rsa jsensharma@Your_Local_Machine_IP:/Users/jsensharma/Shared_Folder_1 /Sandbox_Dir/Shared

.

Hi @Jay SenSharma, thanks for your reply!

the first option is only possible if the GuestAdditions are installed so it's not possible for me.

the second option works for me, but it's a bit cumbersome I think.

Another option that works for me is to install GNOME and use the samba share from my host.

Regarding "the second option works for me, but it's a bit cumbersome I think."

>>> I added the following code in such a way that as soon as systems is booted it will mount it for me.

 sshfs -o IdentityFile=~/.ssh/id_rsa jsensharma@Your_Local_Machine_IP:/Users/jsensharma/Shared_Folder_1 /Sandbox_Dir/Shared

- So no manual intervention is needed.

- Regarding GNOME & Samba installation (Is also a good option) .
