ambari database maintenance

avatar

In one of our clusters, the database used for ambari is going to be shutdown for maintenance. Waht should we do in that case. Will it cause any disruption to the cluster. usually what are the steps done in such scenario?

  1. Stop ambari-server and all ambari-agents
  2. Backup Ambari DB
  3. Shutdown Ambari DB and perform maintenance
  4. Start Ambari DB
  5. Start ambari-server and all ambari-agents, make sure everything works fine on Ambari dashboard and other pages, if something is wrong stop Ambari and restore the database backup.

You can use the cluster as usual during the above operations but obviously you cannot use Ambari to manage the cluster, and all Ambari alerts will be suppresed.

@ARUNKUMAR RAMASAMY The impact will be on accessing ambari UI and performing actions through it. The cluster should not be disrupted

Good to take Ambari DB back up before going to start maintanance.

@pankaj singh, IS it a good practice to run the cluster during the DB maintenance or we should have a downtime for the cluster.
