Regarding the updated paywall policy - specifically the following comment:

"Furthermore, when a license expires, users will no longer be able to access the Cloudera Manager Admin console to manage clusters until a valid license is uploaded. "

We have several unlicensed clusters running.  Do you interpret unlicensed clusters as clusters with expired licenses, in which case we stand to lose access to our Cloudera Manager consoles at any time now?

Hi dturner,

Regarding Cloudera Manager, please allow me to correct something.

You will NOT lose access to anything if you are using Cloudera Manager 5 or 6 with an unlicensed cluster.  Cloudera Manager will continue to run either fully features or with the Cloudera Express feature set for some Cloudera Manager 6 versions.  You can find details about this in the Cloudera Enterprise data sheet here: https://www.cloudera.com/content/dam/www/marketing/resources/datasheets/cloudera-enterprise-datashee...

The policy needs to be clarified and we will fix that right away.

However, if you are using Cloudera Manager 7 and your license expires, the Cloudera Manager UI will deactivate indeed.  There is no 'Cloudera Express' product free version beginning with Cloudera CDP, launched in November 2019. Cloudera Manager 7.0 is the first version to align with CDP Private Cloud, the successor to CDH, and requires a subscription.  There is also a 60 day trial available at Cloudera.com here:https://www.cloudera.com/downloads/cdp-private-cloud-trial.html.html

Oaky, means,

A running unlicensed cluster will not be affected,

but if you are adding a node in the existing cluster, using location archive.cloudera.com/../.../ location,

that will not succeed, because that requires a subscription.
