impala upsert - only works with Kudu tables

Hi 

We are on impala version 2.12.0-cdh5 

Im trying to use 'Upsert'  at the command line and I see the following error

'UPSERT is only supported for Kudu tables'

i know the user reference says 

'UPSERT' only works with Impala 2.8 or higher

If you have any ideas please let me know
