Hi, When you are saying "I set all timeout parameters to 0,", can you please confirm what timeouts you set? From client side or Hive server side? Have you tried to increase the SocketTimeout on the ODBC driver side: https://www.cloudera.com/documentation/other/connectors/hive-odbc/latest/Cloudera-ODBC-Driver-for-Apache-Hive-Install-Guide.pdf on page 81.

Hi, I would suggest to use INT rather than STRING. Firstly, searching based INT type is faster, and secondly, like you said, you can do numeric comparison, which will be different from the STRING type comparison.

HMS does not currently support Load Balancing. You can only specify them in order in hive-site.xml and it will fall to the second HMS only when first HMS is not reachable.

I am not sure if there are easier ways, but something like below might work: SELECT CASE DAYOFWEEK(NOW()) WHEN 1 THEN DAYS_SUB(NOW(), 2) -- Sunday, so Friday was 2 days ago WHEN 2 THEN DAYS_SUB(NOW(), 3) -- Monday WHEN 3 THEN DAYS_SUB(NOW(), 4) -- Tuesday WHEN 4 THEN DAYS_SUB(NOW(), 5) -- Wednesday WHEN 5 THEN DAYS_SUB(NOW(), 6) -- Thursday WHEN 6 THEN DAYS_SUB(NOW(), 7) -- Friday WHEN 7 THEN DAYS_SUB(NOW(), 1) -- Saturday, so Friday just the day before END AS last_friday; If you just want the Friday from last week, regardless of which day you are on, then below might be easier: SELECT DAYS_SUB(NOW(), DAYOFWEEK(NOW()) +1) AS last_friday; Hope above helps.

UPDATE statement in Impala? Are you using KUDU as the underlining table? If not, then UPDATE is not supported. Please refer to below link: https://www.cloudera.com/documentation/enterprise/latest/topics/impala_update.html "This statement only works for Impala tables that use the Kudu storage engine."

I am not familiar with Microsoft SQL, so I am still not sure which while loop you meant. But most likely not supported in Impala.

It is true for Impala, but not in HS2. I have requested our DOC team to update it. After HA enabled for HS2, you can still connect to HS2 instance directly, the only thing to be sure is that you need to use the LB's principal, not HS2 host's principal. Hope that helps.

Currently CM only supports one LB setting in both Hive and Impala configuration, your idea of two active LBs is not supported. When LB fails, you can always connect directly to each HS2 if needed. Hope above helps.

1. old setting is mapred.job.queue.name, new one is mapreduce.job.queuename 2. I am sure _SUCCESS will be ignored, but not sure about others. Easiest way is to test them out 🙂 Cheers

Why do you think catalog server does not need CPU? Catalog daemon needs to load lots of metadata information and it needs power to do so and it could be very intensive depends on how much metadata you have from Hive.
