It should work, the Hadoop APIs are the same, just beware that it is not recommended 😉 Note that even C5.7 comes with Hue 3.9, but it has 2000 improvements on top, so pretty recent. C5.8 will come with the upcoming Hue 3.10 so the version numbers will make more sense.

Is it for all the queries, even a 'show tables'? Any error in the js console? Hue in C5.6 is exactly the same as in C5.5.

How about instead using the # Users will automatically be logged out after 'n' seconds of inactivity. # A negative number means that idle sessions will not be timed out. idle_session_timeout=-1 https://github.com/cloudera/hue/blob/master/desktop/conf.dist/hue.ini#L282 ?

This was fixed in the latest Hue version. In the meantime, it is recommend to "live with them" or use the Hue shell instead. Or if you are 100% sure that this groups do not have any permissions or users attached, you can delete them in MySql. Romain

Indexing Hue is only provided for creating tiny indexes, if you want to put more data, you would need to use the command line and other indexing techniques like explained on the doc http://www.cloudera.com/documentation/archive/search/1-3-0/Cloudera-Search-User-Guide/csug_mapreduce_batch_index_ref.html Romain
