Yes installed via parcels.I un installed and re installed again but the issue persisted.User solr was not created.So I had to create the user solr and things started working fine.

Thank you.I am a newbie in this.Is there some difference in the way in which data is stored in hbase when you use thrift and rest?.Can data that was inserted using thrift be retrieved using rest?. Also from what I understand so far Avro is just a serialization framework which should not be directly compared to thrift or rest with respect to hbase.

Thank you Kevin.I see that hbase do not support an AVRO gate way.So I would need to write my own in this case.My use case is pretty simple. Need to store large amount of data(randon writes) and then use this information for analytics later. Thanks, Nishanth

Thanks Kevin.I was able to do this.I am also planning to use hbase lily indexer service to index the data stored in hbase to solr cloud.Which of thrift ,rest or avro would you prefer?

Hi, Is the hbase thrift file distributed as part of CDH?I have read in one of the cloudera blogs that it is not but will soon be intgerated into.But that's an old blog.So can some one clarify?. Thanks, Nishanth

I could also see in CM UI that there is way to manage the thrift and rest servers. Is avro not integrated into cm?. could also see something called gate way.What function does a gateway do.Is it a load balancer and what is the ideal configuration if I have a hmaster and 4 region servers? Also I am planning to use hbase liliy indexer for the indexing the hbase data into solr.(which means I would be using morphlines).Does this have some implication in how the data is stored in hbase(say if I use avro or thrift I cannot use morphlines). Hi everyone, This is kind of a broader question on which api to select to insert and retrieve data from hbase.Here is what my evaluation is based on. 1.Random inserts into hbase. 2.Random reads from hbase though there will also be cloudera search solr cloud. 3.Java developers available. 4.Performance is the number 1 criteria and easy of development would next to it. Thanks Darren.I understand qourum provides true HA.My cluster has 4 machines and I want to run journal node on all.The manager GUI prevents from confuguring HA in this case as it needs an odd number of journal nodes running.I know its more beneficial to go with an odd number so that we can have the system running even if some machines are down.But this is kind of a test scenario. 1.Do we have a way to configure HA for qorum with an even number for journal nodes.If there is then I would defintely like to go that route. Hi All, I am trying to configure HA hdfs using shared directory and planning to use NAS.I understand that it just need to be mounted on my name node machines.Is there ball park size that I could look at.These are non production servers that I am playing with,so there will not be a huge load and the cluster is very small. It should all depend on how big your cluser i s going to be,storage size,back upl plans for db etc.Are you comfortable having the cm and db on same host?. It the databases get too large you might want to run a dedicated db host for that.Some of the monitoring databases can get large in case of huge clusters.

The error message in manager GUI says to check the logs in mydomain:9000/process/303-solr-SOLR_SERVER/files/logs/stderr.log.How ever when there is no such file present in file system.I do not even see the directory 303-solr-SOLR_SERVER.

Hi , CDH 4.6 and CM 4.8.2 and search 1.2 is installed in my cluster.The installation has been through parcels.I am able to start hbase,map reduce .hdfs etc .But solr service is not getting started.I am getting the below error.Dowe know the reason and how to over come it?. I installed search from this location http://archive.cloudera.com/search/parcels/1.2.0/ I read post where ot was said to install from the latest solr search parcel.Is it the right way? Thanks Darren.The guide combines CDH installation and starting of services.For me the issue is I have already completed my installation.Hence I am not able to get to that screen which allows you to start services.Are these two process tightly coupled? 1.CDH installation completed.How to start services from cm UI?

yes.cloudera recommends having the same OS on all machines.

Hello, I have a 5 node cluster managed by cm and have cdh(4.6) and cloudera search(1.2) installed on all machines.Need to start and configure hdfs,zookepper,hbase,map reduce and solr with high availabity hdfs.Can some one help or point to a document on how to do this. Also if I want to have DFS zk failover controller in two nodes how to go about this?

The .sha file should be named as SOLR-1.2.0-1.cdh4.5.0.p0.4-el6.parcel.sha if you are manually downloading to your NFS.I guess the if its downloaded by the manager it takes care of this not sure though.My .sha file was named as SOLR-1.2.0-1.cdh4.5.0.p0.4-el6.sha without the (.parcel in name).I renamed it and re started the server and things began to work.

Hi Chris, 1. I have http parcel repository local to my environment.This is my Remote Parcel Repository URLs in parcels page in cloudera manager UI.(Done this since host doesn not have internet access to point to archive.cloudera.com) 2.I have also downloaded the same parcel to /opt/cloudera/parcel-repo directory in the host where cloudera manager is installed and this is my entry in Local Parcel Repository Path text box in parcels page. If you go to administration>Settings>parcel you should be able to visualize.Issue is I am not able to see these search parcels in cm GUI and hence doesnt get an option to distribute or activate them.

Hi , I just completed installation of CDH on my clusters. I have not yet configured any services.I would like to install cloudera search as well and then configure services.I have downloaded the search parcel and it is avilable in my local as well as internal remote respositories.have created the .SHA file as well for this but this is not shown up in th parcels page.How should I go abpout installing the search. figured this out.These machine where subscribed to statellite yum repo I had configured earlier.Even though I had the new local yum repos these machines where still pointing to the old ones.I cleared the cache and it worked.Thanks all
