Under Process Group Configuration look for a triangle next to HiveConnectionPool. if you enabled it and there's no warning, you are good. also check the bulletin board for error message or ..nifi/log/ log files.

this is probably bad SQL returning NULL killing Java. Test that query from CLI or try another query. Is there data in that table? does that query return any values?

does the query run in beeline or ambari hive view or zeppelin? is there data in the table? It seems like CAST on null may be an issue. does the user used by NiFi to access Hive have permissions to that table? is your Hive connection pool in NiFi setup and working?

Doesn't seem that algorithm is usually used in massively parallel modern systems. No YARN in HDF, that's why it's a separate cluster. To get YARN you need all the other Hadoop pieces and that makes for a much larger node.

can you connect to mysql from mysql cli or mysqladmin? make sure its working make sure you have rwx permissions for mysql directories check the /var/log/mysql logs make sure you can access mysql telnet localhost 3306 make sure you have iptables and firewalls on your machine (and any on your network off) some firewalls in corporate or on your comcast/verizon/cable router will block some mysql ports) See here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6865538/solving-a-communications-link-failure-with-jdbc-and-mysql Is mysql setup and running? make sure your bind-address is set correctly to 127... or 0.. make sure you have the avro package loaded for the shell. and hdfs with thw correct path and permissions is required. also if you are using kerberos there are other steps. a better experience than repl is zeppelin give it a try
