Hi @Kuldeep Kulkarni , thanks for the URLs, they are quite interesting. Unfortunately my error message is nothing with JSON decode, but resource_management.core.exceptions.Fail:Ambari admin username and password are blank I update all the admin passwords to be the same, for sure, but the problem remains. I updated the following (Ambari 2.1.2.1) properties: Ambari => Ranger => Config: Ranger Admin user's password for Ambari Ambari => Ranger => Config: admin_password Ranger WebUI => password of user admin What I don't understand is the error message, which properties exactly shall be blank ?!?!

Hi, after upgrading Ambari from 2.0.1 to 2.1.2.1 on HDP2.2.4 the services with enabled Ranger plugins are not starting. Error message is: 2016-04-22 17:23:39,688 - HTTP Code: 401

Before the Ambari upgrade the services were running incl. Ranger-plugin enabled. What happened here?!?!

Looks like that the "official YARN" ports (from here) are being applied in contrast to the configured default ports of Ambari (here). @Artem Ervits : I think it is the same as posted here , right? Do you have an URL to the filed bug ? For the time being I'll replace the ports in Ambari by the ones that are in use, to keep it aligned. Thanks, Gerd

Hi, while trying to connect to RM I noticed that the configuration of YARN RM in Ambari doesn't match the actual config used by the RM. In detail: - there is RM HA enabled in the cluster, two RM's - HDP2.2.4, Ambari 2.1.2.1 Ambari config of YARN shows e.g. RM addresses configs like: But if I access the current active config by navigating to <active-rm>:8088/conf I get different ports => Why are there different ports in use, compared to what is configured in Ambari ?!?! YARN has been restarted and no manual edits have been made to any xml-config files. Thanks in advance, Gerd

Hi @Predrag Minovic , thanks for answering. The observation is exactly what is happening here, but even after restarting HBase multiple times this alert doesn't disappear. The output of the Dead Region servers still looks wired, because some of them are multiples and some are even not there => next try ?

Hello, after upgrading HDP from 2.2.4 to 2.3.4.7 using Ambari 2.2.1.1 the service HBase shows a strange alert. It notifies me about dead region servers, and in detail there shall be "7 out of 5 dead region servers"... hmmmm, really ?!? A total of "5" is correct, this is the number of Regionservers, and they are all up and running (and marked "green" in Ambari itself) How to get rid of that wrong alert notification ?!? ...just waiting a couple of days didn't solve the problem 😉 Thanks, Gerd

Hi @Jonas Straub , Hi @Ramesh Mani , I just wanted to update with the solution of that issue. At the end it turned out, that after Ambari upgrade (from 2.0.1 initially to Ambari 2.1.2.1), the placeholder-variables were not set/applied correctly via Ambari. In HDFS => advanced ranger-plugin config there were variables like {{xaaudit_db_XYZ}}, and I replaced those with their real values (xaaudit.db.username, xaaudit.db.database, xaaudit.db.password, ...) , restarted HDFS and now the audit log entries are being written. Regards, Gerd

hi @Ramesh Mani , many thanks. In my Ambari version(2.1.2.1, Ranger 0.4, HDP2.2.4)) I cannot find that property in Ranger config. There is just "advanced ranger-site" but also there, no property "ranger.audit.source.type". The only place where I can configure where to log, is the Policy configuration itself, like in HDFS=>advanced ranger-hdfs-plugin-configuration" where I clicked/marked the checkbox "Audit to DB" The namenode log seems to be the correct hint, there I saw db errors like "connection refused", so I have to investigate into that. I think it is more a mysql problem now, not really a ranger issue....I will catchup on this after after the long weekend...
