Thanks Bill for the reply Microsoft has deemed cutting and pasting of error messages is not allowed functionality, this is nothing new, its been happening for years in dialog boxes on windows, and now div sections on browsers. The first thing you do when you get an error is, what? google it? unless you can remember the millions of error messages and simply know whats gone wrong. I gave up with installing, Cloudera/horton sandbox, spun up a plain hadoop cluster on GCP, it worked unlike Azure, VirtBox and Docker combined, with various error messages and unclear instructions. Also funnily enough I opened my work MacBook and that installed Hadoop fine too, maybe its a Microsoft platform thing! "strokes chin" As an IT manager for a large UK bank, I wonder which platform I'm going to pick for us? but thanks again

Hello @Cloudy Your diagnosis of the root cause of the HTTP 403 error is correct. At the tail end of last month, Cloudera changed the download policy and now to download Ambari and/or HDP you need a valid subscription. Please see the announcement here: Transition to private repositories for CDH, HDP and HDF. The same announcement describes new patch releases of Ambari, which are now required to access Cloudera’s private repositories, which now contain these new and existing releases.

Hello @MiamiDataEng Yes, Cloudra is no longer making that version of the Cloudera Quickstart VM available for download because it was old and outdated as it was based on CDH 5.13, which went out of support in the Fall of last year. To give you a sense of what I mean, CDH 5.16.2, which came out in the Spring of 2019 (and was more up-to-date than CDH 5.13), included Apache Impala 2.12. CDP Private Cloud Base version 7.1.3, which was released in the Fall of 2020, includes Apache Impala 3.4.0, and includes more new features and bug fixes. The label on your question indicated you're interested in Cloudera Data Platform. You should be aware, then, that there is extensive and thorough documentation on installing the CDP Private Cloud Base Edition of Cloudera Data Platform (the "free trial" for which expires after 60 days) on a non-production environment for demonstration and proof-of-concept use cases, however it looks to me like this is intended for multi-host clusters of machines. You might not have such a group of machines available to you, and for economic reasons, might want to avoid creating such a cluster using a cloud service provider's IaaS facilities. Alternatively, if you're already familiar with Virtualbox and Vagrant, you might consider @carrossoni's community article outlining how to create a Centos7 CDP-DC Trial VM for sandbox/learning purposes. Hope this helps.

Hi @kvinod You didn't go into any detail about what issues you were facing when you tried to generate credentials, but I suspect that you are confusing the credentials to access the private repositories with the credentials used to access software using Cloudera’s website. They are not the same. Cloudera recently changed the download policy and now to download certain software from Cloudera's private repositories you need a valid subscription. Please see the announcement here: https://www.cloudera.com/downloads/paywall-expansion.html Toward the end of that announcement, you will see a section titled Frequently Asked Questions which explains the credentials and how to properly obtain them if you don't have them already.

Hi @kc251997 Cloudera recently changed the download policy. Yes, you must have a valid subscription in order to download the software. Please see the announcement here: https://www.cloudera.com/downloads/paywall-expansion.html …where the sentence most pertinent to your question ("I only want CDH, Hive, Impala Free versions for testing") is as follows: Effective January 31, 2021, all Cloudera software will require a valid subscription and only be accessible via the paywall. This includes all legacy versions for Cloudera Distribution including Apache Hadoop (CDH), Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), Data Flow (HDF/CDF), and Cloudera Data Science Workbench (CDSW). Toward the end of that announcement, you will see a section titled Frequently Asked Questions which explains the credentials and how to properly obtain them if you don't have them already.

Hi @danc003 You are seeing this error message due to a recent change in Cloudera's policies about binary package availability in Cloudera's public repositories. Packages are now only available for download from private repositories. Please see the announcement here: Transition to private repositories for CDH, HDP and HDF …where the relevant section is this: As part of the changes announced in October 2020, beginning in February 2021, no versions of Cloudera Manager, CDH…releases will be available via Cloudera's public repositories. Instead, all of the then-currently supported releases of Cloudera Manager, CDH, Ambari, HDP and HDF will be accessible only to active customers with valid subscription entitlements to these Cloudera products. This follows similar changes made for versions released since November 2019, which were never posted in Cloudera’s public repositories. Emphasis added. The same announcement has links in it to documentation describing in detail how to install Ambari and other software from Cloudera’s private repositories.
