@Gagan Dutt It's hard to tell from the description but are you able to ssh to the vm via root@<ipaddress>? Instead of the ip have you also tried using "http://sandbox.hortonworks.com:8080"

@abhishek shah you'll need to use the correct driver and place it in the sqoop lib directory. Follow these instructions http://hortonworks.com/hadoop-tutorial/import-microsoft-sql-server-hortonworks-sandbox-using-sqoop/ Once you do this you won't need to use the --driver command sqoop list-databases --connect jdbc:sqlserver://192.168.56.1:1433 --username hadoop --password hadoop1

@rmian There are a lot of good reasons for using HDI as a production cluster. These include ease of setup easily scalable cost effective Keep in mind HDI is a subset of the complete Hortonworks distribution so you won't get all the bells and whistles but you'll get many of the key components you'll need. All the items you listed are capable in HDI.

You may also look at using Ambari Views (example is in the 2.3.2 sandbox). There are views for both Pig and Hive. 2016-01-07-14-13-52.png

Do you have file compression turned on the C:\Users\xxxxxxx\Downloads\ directory? Double check disk space too.

Are you using a corporate network? Maybe there is a download restriction?

Correction. You have the right file. Try downloading again. I think your download is corrupted.

A couple of things. 1. The file must have only partially downloaded. 2. You downloaded the vmdk for vmware. You'll need to select the download for VirtualBox. The file will have a .ova extension.

We recommend Zeppelin. Apache Zeppelin is currently in tech preview and is included in the most recent sandbox. Otherwise, you can walk through the install here: http://hortonworks.com/hadoop/zeppelin/#section_3 Look for Zeppelin to be included out-of-the-box in future HDP releases.
