From the latest edition of the Pig book: However, it will not work if you put the statement set exectype 'tez' inside a Pig Latin script. This is because Pig decides the execution engine before parsing the script. It can be done by setting exectype in pig.properties, or using "-x tez" on the command line. "-x tez" will also work if your run Pig from Oozie-4.1+ (details here)

One solution is to remove "--hive-import" for incremental imports (after the first one -- what you already tried) and also to set "--target-dir /user/import/memberimport". In this way you are adding new entries to the Hive table's directory and therefore the Hive table will be updated as expected.

Okay, try just import, without creating a job, and drop also "last-value", it's in a wrong format I think. If it still fails then drop "merge-key". Keep on dropping options until it works. Then try adding them one by one to localize the problem.

Try first to drop "hive-drop-import-delims" because it's a Hive specific option but you are not importing to Hive. Then make sure id is integer (to support split-by) and unique (to support merge). Check also my working example.

Which top bar do you mean? I have only those 4 tabs like you: Notebook, Interpreter, Credential and Config, in both the view and at port 9995. In my case only the message "Welcome to Zeppelin" is cut in Ambari view. BTW, I got my Sandbox file on the PST eve June 28, is this the latest version?

Hive, Pig (by means of PigStorage), and Spark all support UTF-8. However, it's not easy to say which languages are completely supported by UTF-8, because, for example some rarely used CJK characters (like in historical texts) outside of the so-called Basic Multilingual Plane (BMP) are not well supported in practice. Therefore, it's better to list up the languages you plan to use, and ask are they supported. In summary, if a language alphabet is completely included in BMP then it's completely supported. Edit: For a cool reading (over the weekend?) see this: Would UTF-8 be able to support the inclusion of a vast alien language with millions of new characters?

According to Hive's JIRA for skipping header and footer rows (see comments at the bottom), it seems it works as expected only for tables represented by a single split (file). For the time being, to avoid troubles it's the best to remove headers and footers beforehand, and refrain from using skip.header.line.count and skip.footer.line.count.
