Hadoop components are shipped as part of HDP repo. So when the next HDP release will be available which includes the Hadoop 3.1.1 component then you will need to get the HDP repo link and then need to perform the HDP upgrade via Ambari (or via command line). The new HDP repository registration steps will be almost similar as the one which is mentioned here: https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.7.0.0/bk_ambari-upgrade/content/upgrading_HDP_register_and_install_target_version.html

By default the Symlink should be correctly created. In your case may be due to some reason the Symlink was not created properly because the directory might be existing instead of symlink .... If this answers your query and resolved your issue then please click on the "Accept" button here that way it will help other HCC users to quickly find the correct solution.

@Lian Jiang In your blueprint you have added "APP_TIMELINE_SERVER", So can you please check if you have also added the "TIMELINE_READER" as following? {
"name" : "APP_TIMELINE_SERVER"

In ambari UI --> Hosts (Tab) --> Specific Host link --> Install Clients button should install the clients. However you can try the following command manually on the problematic host to see if it fixes your issue: # yum reinstall hbase* -y . After the reinstall you should see the following Symlink & Directories: # ls -l /usr/hdp/current/hbase-regionserver
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 27 Jul 21 08:14 /usr/hdp/current/hbase-regionserver -> /usr/hdp/3.0.0.0-1634/hbase
. and # ls -l /usr/hdp/3.0.0.0-1634/hbase
total 20
drwxr-xr-x. 4 root root 4096 Aug 14 23:21 bin
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 25 Jul 21 08:15 conf -> /etc/hbase/3.0.0.0-1634/0
drwxr-xr-x. 2 root root 61 Jul 21 08:14 doc
drwxr-xr-x. 3 root root 18 Jul 21 08:14 etc
drwxr-xr-x. 7 root root 80 Jul 21 08:14 hbase-webapps

Do you have the HBase client installed to that host as well? Or can you try the following command manually on that host and tail the yum.log: # yum reinstall hbase* -y .

The problem is the following directory which ius supposed to be a symlink instead of a directory. ExecutionFailed: Execution of 'ambari-python-wrap /usr/bin/hdp-select set zookeeper-client 3.0.0.0-1634' returned 1. symlink target /usr/hdp/current/zookeeper-client for zookeeper already exists and it is not a symlink. . Please try to create the symlink manually as following to fix this issue: # ls -l /usr/hdp/current/zookeeper-client
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 31 Jul 22 02:10 /usr/hdp/current/zookeeper-client -> /usr/hdp/3.0.0.0-1634/zookeeper . Example: If the Symlink is not correct then do this:
# unlink /usr/hdp/current/zookeeper-client
# ln -s /usr/hdp/3.0.0.0-1634/zookeeper /usr/hdp/current/zookeeper-client
. If "/usr/hdp/current/zookeeper-client" is a directory then in that case move it somewhere and then create a symlink instead.
# ls -ld /usr/hdp/current/zookeeper-client
# mv /usr/hdp/current/zookeeper-client /usr/hdp/current/zookeeper-client_BAK
# ln -s /usr/hdp/3.0.0.0-1634/zookeeper /usr/hdp/current/zookeeper-client .

Can you please check your "/var/log/yum.log" file to see if there is any issue logged while installing Region Server. Can you please try reinstalling the Region Server on that host again to see if it fixes missing file issue.

The current latest HDP 3.0 contains "Apache Hadoop 3.1.0" https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/HDP3/HDP-3.0.0/release-notes/content/comp_versions.html There are not separate HDP repo available currently to get Hadoop 3.1.1 release fixes.

@Michael Bronson The above mentioned issue should not be seen while upgrading to HDP 3.0 if the HDP version is higher than HDP 2.6.2 or euqal to HDP 2.6.2 as this issue HIVE-15081 is marked to be fixed in HDP 2.6.2 release notes. Regarding the disk space query as per the prerequisite: https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.7.0.0/bk_ambari-upgrade/content/upgrading_HDP_prerequisites.html Disk Space: Be sure to have adequate space on /usr/hdp for the target HDP version. Each complete install of an HDP version will occupy about 2.5 GB of disk space. .
