@Deepak Sharma Yes, but I would expect that if 1 policy (15) says 'yes' and the other (31) says 'no', then it should be 'no' . As is stated in the schema in the manual

Hi, I have read the manual but I don't understand the behaviour of 2 policies I have regarding the same Hive table. Policy 15 is a global allow policy on all Hive tables, all columns: then I have policy 31 like this: But whatever I try, user raj_ops still can run 'select * from employee' and get results. Policy 31 is not evaluated as a 'deny' on the resource. I know you can add explicit Deny Conditons to the hive service, and I will try that. But the question is what the EXCLUDE switch (after the Hive column* box ) is good for when it is not picked up.

@Ana Gillan For some reason this is not working for the hive service: curl -u admin:admin sandbox.hortonworks.com:6080/service/public/v2/api/servicedef/3 > hive.json curl -iv -u admin:admin -X PUT -H "Accept: application/json" -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d @hive.json sandbox.hortonworks.com:6080/service/public/v2/api/servicedef/3 < HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found

@Greg Keys That article does not cover attaching traits to GUIDs, only creating new types. Good reading though!

Hi, Can anyone post a working example of adding a trait to an entity with the REST API? So suppose I want to attach the tag 'CONF' to GUID 46c471f1-66ba-453c-9816-08ff144efde4 what is the syntax to do so? Tags / Traits also confuse me: If I understand it correctly Atlas traits are what tag based policies in Ranger are build upon. Way down in the Json response below it shows that what I added as a 'tag' in the Atlas WebUI is actually a 'trait_name' here. But the thing 'tag' is also there, but apparently another thing altogether. So what is the standing of a trait vs. a tag in Atlas? curl -u admin:admin http://sandbox.hortonworks.com:21000/api/atlas/v1/entities/46c471f1-66ba-453c-9816-08ff144efde4

Hi, I can't figure out what these pages are meant for exactly within the Ranger component: And the HDFS one: I am asking since the Ranger HDFS / HIVE plugins both seem to work fine, policies can be published but nonetheless the 'TEST Connection' on both service configs can fail without upsetting your Ranger setup. So, what is this about?

@Ancil McBarnett You can also go for a full reset of the ranger_admin databases by following these steps: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/RANGER/Manual+Reinstallation+of+Ranger-admin I had to go for this option after my manual interventions with the database led to problems on the Ranger WebUI. Downside of this is that the Ranger plugin services also have to be reconfigured, so beware

Turns out Knox can not be set up easily when you have installed just the local MIT KDC for kerberizing the cluster as per this doc . Or you would have to at least install additional services on top like @Predrag Minovic mentioned. That is the very reason why Knox ships with the example demo LDAP that you can start at the Ambari Knox service config Service Actions > Start Demo LDAP.

@Timothy Spann Unfortunately the link which I assume is the download ( https://network.pivotal.io/api/v2/products/pivotal-hdb/releases/1695/product_files/5595/download ) does not work anymore Is there a working HDB Sandbox download somewhere?
