We ran into that symptom after patching our hosts - it eventually emerged that we got a kernel upgrade that doesn't play nice with jsvc.  Apparently there are newer kernel versions that address the issue, but there's also a configuration workaround.   https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DAEMON-363   -Xss2m in the 'Java Configuration Options for NFS Gateway' setting did the trick, but check out the discussion thread in the ticket where they discuss the optimal setting. ...
