check the hive-site.xml on the server. it seems that /etc/hive/conf/hive-site.xml doesn't always get updated with same values in /etc/hive/conf/conf.server/hive-site.xml

UPDATE: i was able to figure out what the issue was. In Ranger 0.5, Permlist values are supposed to be all lower case "read, write, execute"

Hello All, Whenever I try to create HDFS policy using @Jonas Straub script i keep getting an error the READ is not a valid access type. any clue what might be the problem? {"statusCode":1,"msgDesc":"Read: is not a valid access-type. policy='Test' service='HAD_hadoop'"}

/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/ambari_server/os_type_check.sh is the script that Ambari uses to check OS version. After disabling this script, I was able to register the RHEl6 machine to the cluster through Ambari. I also installed all the HDP clients to this node (still have some issues with RPMs management) and was able to run HIVE and Hadoop commands. Note: my cluster is not kerberized yet, probably more interesting issues will come up when i try to enable kerberos 🙂

I have a cluster that is running on RHEL7. I got an extra host that i would like to add to the cluster, this host is running RHEL6 instead. when I try add it to the cluster via ambari I get the error "Local OS is not compatible with cluster primary OS family. Please perform manual bootstrap on this host." I tried installing ambari-agent manually on the RHEL6 machine, edited the ambari-agent.ini file with the right ambari host and restarted the agent. in ambari-server log I can see this error "Host xxx.xxx.com re-registered, will not be added to the available hosts list" Any idea how to pass the OS check on ambari server?

I forgot, and the Namenodes as welll should be added to the hosts file on the windows machine.

@sbrennan I went through the same setup (SAS Access on Windows7 and HDP 2.2.6), they were indifferent REALMs as well. You will need: MIT Kerberos installed on your windows machine. krb5.ini file that has all the information of the realm where your hadoop cluster is, put it on your windows machine KRB5_CONFIG (pointing to the krb5.ini) & KRB5CCNAME system environment variables. In my case i had to put the edge node name and IP in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts as we had an issue with reverse DNS
