I "solved" this issue by upgradeing RAM in my laptop to 16GB. Downloading latest virtual box VM (which is 9GB hence the need for 16 GB of RAM) and using that. Can work through the IoT truck tutorial using the virtual box VM. Maria_dev user is available in the recent VM.

Hi Laxmikant, download and install microsoft FCIV tool
Run the checksum tool against the downloaded ova file:- Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. C:\Users\eeidxy>set path=%path%;c:\fciv C:\Users\eeidxy>fciv.exe C:\Users\eeidxy\Downloads\HDP_2.4_virtualbox_v3.ova // // File Checksum Integrity Verifier version 2.05.
//
6991bc1276053c27f82688fd42c5352d c:\users\eeidxy\downloads\hdp_2.4_virtualbox_v
3.ova
It gives the md5 checksum as follows as a result:-
6991bc1276053c27f82688fd42c5352d Compare this above number to the md5 checksum for the virtual box file in the
release notes.
If they are the same there is no corruption.

Daragh

Hi Rafael, thanks for your answer.I'm very pleased to get assistance so quickly.
I am using the older version since the newer one it twice the size and I don't have
enough RAM to start up the newer one. Also there is a difference in the number of GB downloaded and number of GB in completed download. 9.91 GB on website but I only get to download 9.6 Gb. Is there any way to check the if I got it all, a md5 checksum value? I saw a community article about using firefox for the download, I did that but got the same size file 9,677,066 kb .
I worked through the IoT tutorial in Hortonworks on Azure and got 50 % through then met an error. When I was not using it I stopped the VM but now it wont start up again properly. A reinstall from the top on azure also does not work since even though I get a public IP its notpingable. I have mailed to MS about these issues. So I switched back to the virtual box sandbox version, but the issue is for the below
image, the drop down menu is not available under admin user. So I cant select HDFS files
to start the tutorial. Thats why I suspected that there was a user ID equivlaent to
maria_dev on the older sandbox. ambari-hdfs.png
As you kindly suggested I checked github archive for ambari at :-
https://github.com/hortonworks/tutorials/blob/hdp-2.3/tutorials/hortonworks/deploying-managing-and-configuring-ambari/tutorial.md But it says password is:-
After you spin up the Hortonworks Sandbox, login to Ambari. The default username and password is ``. Then there is an icon, which looks like in the past it contained the user/psw.
But its not readable now. Thanks,
Daragh

hi, I have a older version of the sandbox and since have a problem starting up the latest version, then I want to use the older one. I can log into the ambari dashboard using admin/admin and see the services. However when looking at the newer sandbox tutorial versions it says to use maria_dev/maria_dev, which gives access to the HDFS file system etc to work through tutorials. maria_dev/maria_dev does not work for my older sandbox version with ambari dashboard version of 1.7.0 Can someone tell me the older user/password which is equivalent to maria_dev/maria_dev ? Thanks, Daragh
