@Jane Becker In general the HDFS Service check needs to have the the PATH (user home directory) to be created in advance as following: Suppose if the user who has logged in to FileView has the name as "testuser1" then you will need to create a directory in HDFS as following: # su - hdfs -c "hdfs dfs -mkdir /user/testuser1"
# su - hdfs -c "hdfs dfs -chown -R testuser1:hadoop /user/testuser1" . Ambari also allows to auto create the users home directory as described in the following link with the help of "ambari.post.user.creation.hook" : https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.6.1.5/bk_ambari-administration/content/create_user_home_directory.html

@Michael Bronson In the mentioned tuning link we can start from the "Suggested Memory settings" section (as most of the time incorrect memory tuning causes AMS collector to go down) to see if the memory is allocated properly to the AMS system accordingly. The Data Dirs are as following :
hbase.tmp.dir=/var/lib/ambari-metrics-collector/hbase-tmp
hbase.zookeeper.property.dataDir=${hbase.tmp.dir}/zookeeper
phoenix.spool.directory=${hbase.tmp.dir}/phoenix-spool .

@Michael Bronson Looks like AMS collector is not able to start properly and hence the zookeeper is showing connection Loss while finding the znode. Sometimes it happens if the AMS collector is not tuned properly. Specially when the Heap Settings are not done properly according to the number of nodes present in the cluster. So can you please refer to the following doc to check if the Heap settings are fine and according to the cluster: - https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/AMBARI/Configurations+-+Tuning - Sometimes cleaning up the "hbase.zookeeper.property.dataDir" and '${hbase.tmp.dir}/phoenix-spool temp directory content helps in making the zookeeper and spool dir data (which are temporary dirs).

@Michael Bronson Do you have the same Ambari Version in both the clusters? This is a fresh cluster or Upgraded one?

@Michael Bronson This is new feature. You might be having a different HDP version in the other clusters. Are you saying the other cluster which have HDP 2.6.4 shows a different behaviour (they should not). They also should be in gray. For example my local env: Ambari-Version 2.6.1.0 , HDP-2.6.4 (Gray color for Non HDP managed repo services are normal now. Like Ambari Metrics or SmartSense as they come from ambari repo instead from HDP repo). .

@Michael Bronson The component listed in Gray color are not part of HDP repo. For example Ambari Metrics comes from Amabri Repo (not from HDP repo) so they are mentioned in gray color.

@Sam Red After enabling kerberos on Hive, Client will need to have two things: 1. A valid URL whihc has the principal name appended to it something like: jdbc:hive2://m1.hdp.local:10000/test;principal=hive/_HOST@HDP.LOCAL 2. A valid kerberos ticket on the client side. Following article talks more about various hiveserver2 URL formats for kerberized cluster. https://community.hortonworks.com/articles/4103/hiveserver2-jdbc-connection-url-examples.html . https://community.hortonworks.com/questions/1807/connecting-to-kerberos-enabled-hive-via-jdbc-direc.html .

@maha Rm Ambari 2.2.0 is really too old. The latest ambari version is 2.6.1.5 So if you are planning to upgrade ambari then that is really best as it has many enhancements , better performance, and lots of bug fixes. https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.6.1.5/bk_ambari-upgrade/content/ambari_upgrade_guide.html https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/HDP2/HDP-2.6.4/bk_support-matrices/content/ch_matrices-ambari.html#ambari_stack

@maha Rm Looks like your ambari version is too old. In old version of ambari the value for this setting was tez.am.tez-ui.history-url.base=__HISTORY_URL_BASE__?viewPath=%2F%23%2Ftez-app%2F__APPLICATION_ID__ . In later version it uses the Ambari URL with Tez view path on it. So please try setting this value there.
