@Michael Bronson Do you mean that there is no NameNode on that single host? As you are talking about JournalNode so do you means that you want to have NameNode HA on a single node machine? . If NameNode HA is not a requirement then you can take a look at the HDP Sandbox and then export it's Blueprint then create a cluster based on that. Or Just take a HDP Sandbox then delete whatever unwanted services/components that you do not want in your single node cluster and then you can either use the same or export it's blueprint and then use it.

@Michael Bronson Ambari provides an option as following to change the hostnames for various hosts: # ambari-server update-host-names host_names_changes.json . In this case we will need to create a JSON file as mentioned in the doc: https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.6.0.0/bk_ambari-administration/content/ch_changing_host_names.html {
"cluster1" : {
"c6400.ambari.apache.org" : "c6410.ambari.apache.org",
"c6401.ambari.apache.org" : "c6411.ambari.apache.org",
....
}
} . NOTE: Please make sure to not have Mixed case hostname OR Uppercase Hostname. Please keep all hostnames in Lowercase else you might encounter some issues.

Is there any specific reason hat you are planning to use ambari 2.4.x, Which is too old. The current ambari release is "2.6.1.5". Which has lot many bug fixex as well as many enhancements. Also as mentioned in my previous update that the error that you are getting is because of the BUG AMBARI-19246 so have you applied the workaround? Are you getting a new error ?

As you are getting the following error. (Which indicates a bug) Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/ambari_agent/main.py", line 387, in <module> main(heartbeat_stop_callback) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/ambari_agent/main.py", line 355, in
mai n (retries, connected, stopped) = netutil.try_to_connect(server_url, MAX_RETRI ES, logger) UnboundLocalError: local variable 'server_url' referenced before assignment This seems to be related to: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AMBARI-19246 Which is addressed in Ambari 2.5, So can you please let us know which version of ambari binaries are you using? If using previous version of ambari then is it possible for you to upgrade to ambari 2.5 or later? If you can not upgrade then try the Workaround to manually edit the "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/ambari_agent/main.py" script of ambari agent as mentioned in: https://reviews.apache.org/r/54890/diff/1#index_header Basically move the "server_url" inside the main.py script outside the try block.

@Liana Napalkova Usually the ambari agent sends registration request to ambari server everytime when we restart the ambari agent. So can you please check if you have restarted the ambari agent after making the IP Address changes?

@Manisha Pande Suppose you want to setup a Remotely running Oracle Server ()assuming it is running on remote host "oracledb.example.com" on port 1521) for your Ambari Server. Then you will need to do this: Step1). Refer to the Ambari Doc to know how run the DDL on the Remote Database. https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.6.1.5/bk_ambari-administration/content/using_ambari_with_oracle.html Step2). On the ambari Server Host run the ambari setup as following: Basically when Ambari Setup wizard asks for "Enter advanced database configuration [y/n] (n)?" Then enter 'y' and proceed Example: # ambari-server setup
Using python /usr/bin/python
Setup ambari-server

@Manisha Pande In order to use Non Default Databases you will first need to setup the Database and ambari provides various "*.sql" files which has the DDL to create/setup the DB and create various tables in it. These SQL files can be found inside the "/var/lib/ambari-server/resources" directory on ambari server. More detailed instructions can be found here: MySQL: https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.6.1.5/bk_ambari-administration/content/using_ambari_with_mysql.html Oracle: https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.6.1.5/bk_ambari-administration/content/using_ambari_with_oracle.html Once the Database is setup and we execute the DDL on the DB side then while runnign the "ambari-server setup" command at some point it will ask for " Advanced Database Configuration " there we can enter the remote Database Hostname & Port . The setup wizard itself will ask for the DB username & password Schema name etc.

@Liana Napalkova Can you please share the complete StackTrace of the "error with HiveServer2" Also can you please check on the HiveServer2 host to know if hive thrift port 10000 is actually opened or not? # netstat -tnlpa | grep 10000 . Can you also please share the Hive Server logs so that we can see if the Hive Services are actually running without any error or not? Also if possible then can you also check if you are able to start the Hive Components manually or not ? The commands are available in the following docs: https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/HDP2/HDP-2.6.4/bk_reference/content/starting_hdp_services.html Example: # su $HIVE_USER
# nohup /usr/hdp/current/hive-server2/bin/hiveserver2 -hiveconf hive.metastore.uris=/tmp/hiveserver2HD.out 2 /tmp/hiveserver2HD.log .

@Liana Napalkova For HDFS User home check fail please refer to the following link for more detailed instructions: https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.6.0.0/bk_ambari-views/content/setup_HDFS_user_directory_pig_view.html . For File/Hive View we also need to setup proxyusers (if it is not setup already) in latest version of ambari it is usually setup by default but still it is good to check once: Services > HDFS > Configs > Advanced > Custom core-site Add Property hadoop.proxyuser.root.groups=*
hadoop.proxyuser.root.hosts=* https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.6.0.0/bk_ambari-views/content/setup_HDFS_proxy_user.html
