Can I drop use of the /etc/hadoop/conf/slaves file

I believe the file /etc/hadoop/conf/slaves is a hold over from older scripts used to start and stop the cluster. I now use our own scripts for non-Cloudera Manager clusters. I have removed this file and have seen no errors. Will someone please confirm my theory that I can remove this through out all of our CDH clusters.

Just to close this out. I removed the slave and the regionserver files from both of my clusters. They have no affect on the CDH environment. This is what I expected as I believed them to be legacy files from older start/stop scripts.
