In a previous article we outlined how community members can navigate the redesigned community. Once you understand the new board structure and how to find content that interests you, you'll want to stay up to date when new content is posted. Members who have been with the community for a while may have noticed the restructuring removed many of the boards they had subscribed to previously. It will be important for you, as well as new members, to create or update your subscriptions to remain informed on topics of interest. Let's discuss how to subscriptions and notifications work on the redesigned community.
Understanding what you can and want to subscribe to is the first step. Here is a handy list of content types and areas you can subscribe to.
Once you identify an interest, you can subscribe as follows.
On a category or content type page (we call them boards) there will be an options menu above the content feed. Click on the option menu and the subscribe option.
When viewing a content feed, you'll notice a list of labels on the right side of the page. Click on one of these labels to view content in that uses the label you're interested in.
Once on an individual label page (Cloudera Manager support questions, for example) there will be a link above the content to subscribe to the label. Click the link, and you'll be subscribed.
When viewing an individual piece of content, you have a couple of ways to subscribe. You're automatically subscribed to new replies on content to which you've replied. If you want to follow replies without leaving a comment, you can use the option pull down to subscribe instead.
Once you subscribe to content, you should check your settings to ensure you're receiving notifications in the way that works best for you. To access your subscriptions and notifications, click on your profile avatar to expose the user menu and select My Subscriptions.
This will take you directly to your subscription and notification settings. In this area, you can see what you've subscribed to, remove subscriptions, and edit notification settings.
While subscriptions will provide notifications in the community, make sure to check your notification settings to change how quickly you receive email notifications. There are defaults in place and you may wish to change them to receive emails immediately, as a daily or weekly digest, or never. You can also control what kind of actions you want to be notified about.
If you have any additional questions about subscriptions and notifications, let us know in the comments.
