Can you please share the below property value from hdfs-site.xml.
dfs.namenode.http-address
Also, is this a secure cluster or an unsecure cluster.

Yes, I tried couple of browsers on that Azure VM. I checked ipconfig and got IPv4 as 10.0.0.6 and it was pinging. When I pinged ip address of Azure VM, it's timing out.

In the attached hdfs-site.xml the value for both dfs.namenode.http-address and dfs.https.port have the same port 50070, which might have a conflict.
Please set 50071 as the port for dfs.https.port, restart Hadoop and then try using the browser, once the Namenode is out of safemode.
If this does not work, you might want to set the value for dfs.namenode.http-address to 0.0.0.0:50070, restart Hadoop, wait for Namenode out of Safemode and then try hitting http://localhost:50070 in the browser. Let me know if this helps. Thanks!

Thanks a ton Namit. Your second suggestion worked i.e. set the value for dfs.namenode.http-address to 0.0.0.0:50070. Appreciate reasoning behind that. Also what do u mean by "Once the Namenode is out of safemode"
Also I know I can not browser "user" folder thru UI bcoz of error "Permission denied: user=gopher, access=READ_EXECUTE, inode="/user":hadoop:hdfs:drwx--x--x". Is there any way to access that using UI instead of using runas command.
