Environment:

1 x rhel ambari host (ambari server is installed on this machine)

4 x rhel hosts for cluster (node1-node4)

In Ambari GUI the deployment fails (image attached)

When I click on issues encountered link the following error lines show up:

 One of the configured repositories failed (Unknown),
 and yum doesn't have enough cached data to continue. At this point the only
 safe thing yum can do is fail. There are a few ways to work "fix" this:

     1. Contact the upstream for the repository and get them to fix the problem.

    2. Reconfigure the baseurl/etc. for the repository, to point to a working

       upstream. This is most often useful if you are using a newer distribution release than is supported by the repository (and the packages for the previous distribution release still work).

     3. Run the command with the repository temporarily disabled

            yum --disablerepo=<repoid> ...

     4. Disable the repository permanently, so yum won't use it by default. Yum will then just ignore the repository until you permanently enable it again or use --enablerepo for temporary usage:

            yum-config-manager --disable <repoid>

        or

            subscription-manager repos --disable=<repoid>

     5. Configure the failing repository to be skipped, if it is unavailable.

        Note that yum will try to contact the repo. when it runs most commands,

        so will have to try and fail each time (and thus. yum will be be much

        slower). If it is a very temporary problem though, this is often a nice

        compromise:

            yum-config-manager --save --setopt=<repoid>.skip_if_unavailable=true

on cluster hosts ambari-hdp-1.repo is being created automatically with empty base urls:

[root@node1 ~]# cat /etc/yum.repos.d/ambari-hdp-1.repo
[HDP-3.1-repo-1]
name=HDP-3.1-repo-1
baseurl=

path=/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=0
[HDP-UTILS-1.1.0.22-repo-1]
name=HDP-UTILS-1.1.0.22-repo-1
baseurl=

path=/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=0[root@node1 ~]#
[root@node1 ~]#
[root@node1 ~]#

96441-deployment-fails.jpg

is this normal?

I then edited /etc/yum.repos.d/ambari-hdp-1.repo on all cluster hosts and updated baseurl for HDP and HDP-UTILS and started deployment again. This time it fails with a different error:

stderr:

any ideas what might be going on here?

I'm faily new to Hortonworks - actually big data for that matter. So just trying to find my way into self learning and self growth.

Thanks

Hi @IMRAN KHAN,

Could you please check the repos are correct in host where the installation is failing

# grep 'baseurl' /etc/yum.repos.d/* | grep -i HDP

Try cleaning the yum cache by running the command.

# yum clean all

Please check if in case of any multiple "ambari-hdp-<repoid>.repo" files present inside the "/etc/yum.repos.d/" . If so, then move the unwanted files from there to back up folder.

Please try the below commands from the host where it is failing to install "hdp-select" package

# yum install hdp-select -y

Hope this helps!

Hello @Sampath Kumar

Thanks for your leads. It solved the repository problem, but then I encountered several more issues.

However, I have been able to resolve those and now my cluster is up and running with 4 x green hosts. The only warning I am having now is of smart sense gateway. Since my hosts are not on internet therefore I am not worried about smart sense gateway communication warning.

Thanks for your help and support.

it seems the ambari agent can not get the right repo parameter to generate the .repo file.

HDP-3.1-repo

HDP-UTILS01.1.0.22-repo

but from zypper install , we can normally access the local repo.

could anybody give more info ?
