Query regarding hdfs finalize process

Hi,

Wanted clarification/guidance related to finalize process for HDFS. Could we keep using the cluster while the finalize upgrade process is ongoing e.g., data is being written to hdfs while finalize process continues in the background OR would we need downtime for the same?
