when start sqoop, error: [sqoop@ip-172-31-31-73 ~]$ sqoop Warning: /usr/hdp/2.3.4.0-3485/hbase does not exist! HBase imports will fail. Please set $HBASE_HOME to the root of your HBase installation. Try 'sqoop help' for usage.

so I am wondering if I need install Hbase in order to use sqoop.

I will use sqoop to extract data from teradata and dump to a hive table, do I need Hbase?

you can ignore that warning, you can ignore these warnings whether it's hbase, accumulo, hive as long as you don't save your data in any of those you can safely ignore them.
