As part of the community redesign, we also updated how members will post and navigate on the community. Our previous design had over 20 different forum boards which could be confusing when a single question could apply to several of them. To simplify things we placed all the support types questions into a single board and use the labeling system to filter the posts. Let’s look at the different navigation methods available.
Using the Header
If you want to navigate quickly to the questions you can use the header navigation to browse all questions.
From the header you can also navigate to the “All Labels” page. This page will list all the labels used on the community, clicking on a label will take you to a search page showing all the content that the label assigned.
Using "Explore the Community"
Alternatively, you can also use the "Explore the Community" navigation and go to support questions.
On the support questions board you will also see labels listed on the lower right of the page. Clicking on any label will filter the content feed to show only questions that have the label selected. From the label page you can also subscribe to the label to be informed when new questions are submitted with that label.
Asking a Question
As for creating a new question, this has become much easier. We have added a button (in blue) in the header across the community to "ask a question".
The button links you directly to a new post page where you can submit your question. We simply ask that you apply all the appropriate labels so those who have subscribed to them will be notified.
You can also use the Contribute option in the header for links to Ask a Question, Create a Community Article or Create a Repo.
Navigating your posts
Like with the old design, members can navigate to their profile page to find their posts. To do so look for your notifications window and click on your profile image. This will open a pull down menu to access your profile, settings and other items.
Clicking on "My profile" will bring you to your profile page where you can see your activity. In the main column you will find your accepted solutions that provides links to all the solutions you authored. This will come in handy if you see a similar issue and want to find a link to where you answered the question previously.
Below that is your latest contributions which shows all of your community posts from newest to oldest. This section also has a pull down selector to see the topics you have participated in which shows the latest activity from yourself and others in posts you have participated in.
We hope you enjoy the new design.

This community now features a modern look and a simplified experience that makes it easier to find what you need, when you need it. Below is all the information you need to know to get started and get engaged.
Navigating the Updated Cloudera Community
Our new Cloudera Community is easier to navigate with its updated interface and a singular content feed that contains all the information you need right on the homepage. You can quickly view open questions or solutions by clicking the tabs or by using the search function to find specific content. And you can easily navigate to areas of the community by using the “Browse” and “Contribute” menus. Want to quickly get to our blog and other areas? Simply click the new “Explore the Community” drop-down menu on the right-hand side of most pages.
Get Involved
First, see what’s changed for you. Then, get started with these steps:
Update Your Notification Preferences - Take a minute to reset your preferences. Click your avatar to get to My Settings > Subscriptions & Notifications. You’ll receive an immediate email notification for your content subscriptions by default. You can change the frequency to: never, daily, or weekly. For more, see our Profile Tips.
Upload an Avatar - Click your avatar, choose “My Profile,” and you can view your information. While there, you can upload a new avatar to replace the community default image.
Update Your Bookmarks & Subscriptions - Previous board bookmarks or board subscriptions no longer work, but you can subscribe to labels and continue to get notified of new content in your area of expertise.
Introduce Yourself - If you haven’t yet, let us know a little bit about yourself: background, current role, Hadoop use case, favorite hobbies, etc.
Ask Questions - Click “Ask a Question” in the main top navigation menu to start a new question from any community page.
Search or Browse - “Browse” all questions, technical articles, or repos, or initiate a new search anywhere in the community, or filter community content by labels, date, author, metadata, post type, and contains (text) using our Advanced Search.
Share Your Expertise - Share your knowledge or troubleshooting tips with members using Community Articles and Repos. These are new types of content for the Cloudera Community, and there will be many more once we move all of the Hortonworks Community Connection content over in August.

Last month in the “Our community is getting a little larger. And a lot better.” announcement, we shared exciting news that the Cloudera Community and Hortonworks Community Connection (HCC) will unite our content and members under one roof!
We will update and modernize the existing Cloudera Community at the end of July and fully transition all HCC content in mid-August. Here are more important details you’ll need to know to prepare!
What should I expect in the new community?
Our goal is to continue to be a trusted source of information and answers, and we strive to consistently improve your journey.
We’ve learned a lot from what HCC did well, and we’re taking some of those experiences forward in the combined community. You’ll find the new community design simpler--it’ll be easier to ask and answer questions. Watch for the updated design to launch at the end of the month.
In the redesigned community you will continue to:
Ask questions. When you’re unable to find the answer click “Ask a Question” in the main navigation menu at the top to start a new question from any community page.
Look for correct answers. Find questions marked with a green “Solved” stamp to find questions with answers. And in August, all the HCC questions and answers will be available, too!
Connect and network with other like-minded experts. Our community is about to double! Be sure to “Add as Friend” new members with expertise you want to follow.
Search or Browse. You choose! You can “Browse” all questions, technical articles, or repos. You can also initiate a new search anywhere in the community. And improved advanced Search will allow you to filter community content by labels, date, author, metadata, post type, and contains (text). Additionally, the home page will allow you to toggle the feed by open questions, solved questions, or technical content.
Share your expertise and knowledge. You will soon be able to also share your knowledge or troubleshooting tips with members using Community Articles and Repos.
Search technical articles. All community members will now have access to user-generated Community Articles containing valuable troubleshooting tips submitted by our members when we migrate the HCC code repositories and articles to our community. Later this fall, subscription customers will also gain access to a greater repository of support content when the official Cloudera Support Knowledge is merged with the official Hortonworks Support Knowledge Base. To learn more about becoming a support customer visit Cloudera Support.
The new Cloudera Community will feature a modern layout with an easy to use interface. Get your first look at a few key areas of the new community:
Community Home page
Question Page
User Profile page
Want to learn more? Check out our post "Community Changes and Feature Definitions Details" for information on how to find or perform the common user actions in the new community.
How will I access the new community?
Your user account will not change in the new community.
Can I keep my community reputation?
The updated community will roll out a new reputation system that will include, among other things, an improved rank system, new leaderboards and a brand new community badge strategy. You will be able to earn new badges and advance your rank level every time you answer questions, contribute solutions, add community articles and more! Look for more information to come on this!
How can I learn more?
The new Cloudera Community is almost here! Our team will continue to share important updates in the weeks to come, including more details around our exciting new Reputation System. Don’t forget to leave your feedback and comments because they are vital to our success both now and in the future.
