Hi Gin, The error is in connecting to the monitoring service. Are all of your Management Service roles up and running? Any interesting errors in the logs for those roles? I believe ServiceMonitor is the likely culprit here, but doesn't hurt to check the others. Thanks, Darren

Hi, This is a known issue in Sentry that was fixed in CDH 5.1.4 and 5.2. Please upgrade your Cloudera Manager, then upgrade CDH to resolve this issue. Be sure to follow upgrade instructions, as there are special steps required when upgrading to CDH 5.2. http://www.cloudera.com/content/cloudera/en/documentation/core/latest/topics/installation_upgrade.html Thanks, Darren

A restart in this case shouldn't be necessary, and can also mess up your benchmarking results if you aren't careful, as all services will be in a "cold start" state since all caches will be empty upon restart.

Hi, It sounds like you are upgrading Cloudera Manager ("CM", not "CDM"). Can you confirm? What version of CDH are you running? HIVESERVER2 is supported in CDH4.2+. Can you provide more details on where you saw the error, and provide the precise error message? Is it possible that you are using CDH4.1? If so, then HS2 was never supported for that version, but earlier Cloudera Manager versions didn't prevent you from trying. In this case, you should remove the HS2 role, upgrade to CDH4.2+, then add it back. Thanks, Darren

Impala is part of CDH 5. So to upgrade impala, you upgrade all of CDH. You don't upgrade CDH "first". That's the only step. Be sure to follow the Cloudera Manager documentation for upgrades, as CDH5.2 has special upgrade steps. First upgrade Cloudera Manager: http://www.cloudera.com/content/cloudera/en/documentation/core/latest/topics/cm_ag_upgrading_cm.html Then upgrade CDH: http://www.cloudera.com/content/cloudera/en/documentation/core/latest/topics/cm_mc_upgrade_to_cdh52.html

Impala and Spark will not stop functioning. That warning is telling you that if you get a regular (not trial) cloudera license, then Impala and Spark are treated differently from the more "core" CDH components, and you need to make sure your license covers it otherwise you won't get support for for those services as part of your subscription. You can ignore that message if you're on a trial license. CM won't ever disable usage of Impala or Spark, regardless of your license. This warning is just informational. Some of the Management Service roles will, however be disabled if your license expires. Monitoring is in the free version, other stuff is generally not.

Glad that fixed it for you! I've filed an internal bug report to make the upgrade code handle a missing management service. I'm not sure why Sentry should have any issue. If you'd like us to take a look, please start a new thread with more information on the problematic behavior and error messages. Thanks, Darren

Hi, Did you have a management service defined before you did the upgrade? If not, can you try reverting to the older Cloudera Manager binaries, restoring your mysql backup, and adding the management service (there should be a button on the top somewhere), then repeating your upgrade? Thanks, Darren
