The simplest first check is to ensure the node is a Hive Gateway. You can set this role in Cloudera Manager.

Another alternative is to change your scratch_dirs to be outside of /tmp. That way it might be safe from any job that cleans out /tmp

When one or more parent directories in the path are missing, file creation will fail with err=2 # ls -ld /tmp/impala-scratch ls: cannot access /tmp/impala-scratch: No such file or directory # touch /tmp/impala-scratch/test touch: cannot touch `/tmp/impala-scratch/test': No such file or directory Next time this error occurs, check for the presence of /tmp/impala-scratch before restarting the service. Also, check the HDFS Audit logs to identify which user might be deleting the directory.

If you have Cloudera Manager already installed, please follow the upgrade guide to move to v5.3.0. http://www.cloudera.com/content/cloudera/en/documentation/core/latest/topics/cm_ag_upgrade_cm5.html

This issue only occurs when you're using a Cloudera Manager version less than 5.3.0 to manage a CDH 5.3.0 cluster. Please upgrade Cloudera Manager as well to 5.3.0. If the error still persists, then run the following commands to fix the symlink. $ sudo mkdir -p -m 755 /opt/cloudera/parcels/CDH/lib/spark/assembly/lib $ sudo ln -sf /opt/cloudera/parcels/CDH/lib/spark/lib/spark-assembly-1.2.0-cdh5.3.0-hadoop2.5.0-cdh5.3.0.jar /opt/cloudera/parcels/CDH/lib/spark/assembly/lib/spark-assembly-1.2.0-cdh5.3.0-hadoop2.5.0-cdh5.3.0.jar

I haven't used Phoenix, so this is just a shot in the dark. As per this stackoverflow post, you might need to use a more recent JDK. If you have more than one JDK installed, try ensuring you are using JDK 1.7 http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12028166/java-lang-unsupportedclassversionerror-unsupported-major-minor-version-51-0-un

I am not able to reproduce this issue. Are you able to provide the log snippets from /var/log/cloudera-manager-installer ? Just the ones which show an error.

Please ensure naming is correctly set up. Both the new node and the host running CM should be able to resolve each other's host name. If you can resolve host name correctly but cannot connect to ports other than the standard ones like ssh, then ensure that the firewall (iptables) on the host is turned off
