If you are a beginner and you're just looking for an up-to-date, Hadoop-based data platform to install and learn on, you can currently do so without a Cloudera subscription by downloading and installing the Trial Version of CDP Private Cloud Base Edition of Cloudera Data Platform, which is powered by 100% open source components from various Apache projects.

Hi @sourya456 I think I can help. First, the current Enterprise Data Platform offered by Cloudera as of 12th May 2021, is Cloudera Data Platform (CDP), which in it's on-premises "form factor" was released back on November 22, 2019, well over a year ago. The on-premises offering was named CDP Data Center at that point and is now called CDP Private Cloud. CDP superseded CDH as Cloudera's data platform offering. You can find the most recent official reminder of the previous announcement that Cloudera Enterprise 6.x will be reaching End of Support (EoS) in 2021 here: March 2021 Customer Advisory - 2: End of Support for Cloudera Products (CDH/CM 6.x & HDP 3.x) My understanding is that organizations with a valid Cloudera subscription for legacy products such as CDH would have previously been sent this announcement directly. You can find the announcement that Cloudera was making binaries for legacy products such as CDH exclusively available from a private repository here: Transition to private repositories for CDH, HDP and HDF. If your organization already has a valid Cloudera subscription, please do read that announcement in full, as there are links in it to documentation on how to upgrade your installation of Cloudera Manager to deal with the repository location change. As far as documentation, one can view detailed documentation describing this change in the way Cloudera distributes binaries for CDH and how to download the software following this change embedded directly in the CDH 6.x documentation here: CDH 6 Download Information

Hi @Sam_38 The simplest explanation is that you are now being required to submit credentials in order to add a new node because you have your Cloudera express installation configured to retrieve files from one of Cloudera's repositories. This past February, Cloudera changed the download location and made CDH, including versions prior to 6.3.3, exclusively available from a private repository. Please see the announcement here: Transition to private repositories for CDH, HDP and HDF. If your organization already has a valid Cloudera subscription, please do read that announcement in full, as there are links in it to documentation on how to upgrade your installation of Cloudera Manager to deal with the repository location change. If you don't already have a valid Cloudera subscription, you now have two options: Acquire a valid Cloudera subscription. Remove your existing installation's dependency on Cloudera's repository for obtaining files when you add a node to the cluster. You can pursue the first option by contacting the Cloudera Sales Team to initiate the process of obtaining a subscription. The second option involves reconfiguring your installation of Cloudera manager to obtain files from a repository local to your site instead of Cloudera's, as discussed in this thread.

Hi @Vallanon Cloudera Express was discontinued over a year ago now, please see the announcement here: Cloudera Enterprise 6.3.3 Released …scroll down to the subsection Important Note About Cloudera Express. The most pertinent sentence is this one: Beginning with release 6.3.3, Cloudera Express has been discontinued and is no longer available. Some folks interpreted the first part of that sentence to mean that versions of CDH prior to 6.3.3 (such as 6.3.2) would be safe to download with no subscription agreement going forward. The most important part is the last bit, is no longer available. As you seem to be aware, this past February, Cloudera clarified (or changed, if you prefer) the download location and only made CDH, including versions prior to 6.3.3, only available from a private repository. Please see the announcement here: Transition to private repositories for CDH, HDP and HDF. This announcement effectively superseded the February 2020 announcement. If you want to attempt to obtain a Cloudera Subscription, you are welcome to contact the Cloudera Sales Team to find out more about subscription options, but If you're honestly just looking to evaluate a data platform, you can currently do so without an existing valid Cloudera subscription by downloading and installing the Trial Version of CDP Private Cloud Base Edition of Cloudera Data Platform, which is much more up-to-date and complete than CDH 6.3.2.

Hi @Saketh If you are new to the HDP Sandbox and you don't understand what @Daming Xue is referring to, I highly recommend you review the tutorial Learning the Ropes of the HDP Sandbox and specifically the subsection Map Sandbox IP to Your Desired Hostname in the Hosts File as the procedure is described in detail there.

Hi @ghost28 Hopefully you are aware that earlier this year, Cloudera modified its policies and the binaries you are seeking to download are now only available in a private repository. If not, please see the announcement here: Transition to private repositories for CDH, HDP and HDF The credentials to access this private repository are not generally the same ones you use to access Cloudera's website or the Cloudera community. To access the binaries via the private repository, you must first have an active subscription agreement with Cloudera. You can read more about how to obtain the credentials necessary to access the private repository here: Obtain Credentials

Hi @swapko The key question you should answer before proceeding is: Do you have a valid Cloudera subscription? The reason I ask that is because I think this is the key part of the error message you are encountering: nested exception is java.lang.RuntimeException: Upgrade not allowed in Express or Trial mode Cloudera Express was discontinued over a year ago now, please see the announcement here: Cloudera Enterprise 6.3.3 Released …scroll down to the subsection Important Note About Cloudera Express. The part that is most relevant, I think, to your specific error message is this one: Upgrades to Cloudera Manager 6.3.3 or CDH 6.3.3 and higher are not supported while running Cloudera Express. A valid Cloudera Enterprise or CDP license must be in place before upgrading to Cloudera Manager 6.3.3 or 7.x, or the upgrade will not be completed. This also applies to trial installations of Cloudera Enterprise and CDP Data Center. So, when you say that you "tried upgrading to CM 7.3.1", I think the constraints on upgrading to a version of Cloudera Manager more recent than 6.3.3 are probably ensuring that your efforts are bound to fail if you attempt to do that upgrade while running a previous version of Cloudera Express. If you do not have a valid subscription, obtaining one should be the first thing you ensure you have, so you can begin the process running a licensed version of Cloudera Enterprise and therefore eliminate that uncertainty.
